Caitlin Clark has been sidelined for more than 15 games this WNBA season. Although she supports her teammates and shares her observations with them, many fans and analysts call it a blessing to watch the game from the coach’s perspective so early in the season.
Recently, Clark appeared on Sue Bird’s podcast and discussed her experience off the court. Caitlin Clark might not be on the court, but she ensures to shower her support to her teammates. She pointed out different aspects of the game and even took a jab at officiating in games.
Caitlin Clark Takes A Jab At WNBA Referees
Fans have seen the 23-year-old weave her magic on court. But during her injury recovery period, they saw a different side of her. She was involved in every game from the bench. She coached and shared her notes with teammates, providing them with a clue to make offensive or even defensive adjustments. Many even started calling her ‘Coach Clark’ for her role off the bench.
Now addressing the same, Caitlin Clark made her views clear on Sue Bird’s podcast, Bird’s Eye View. The Former Seattle star asked the Fever superstar about her coaching from the sidelines. First, the 2024 rookie of the Year interjected with a ‘coaching to refs’ remark and later explained her thoughts.
“I feel like I would be a really good ref, though, from the side. I wouldn’t miss a call,” CC mentioned in the end as she went on to expand her role and learnings from the sidelines.

With officiating in the WNBA is constantly under scrutiny, Caitlin Clark was frustrated over missed or wrong foul calls. She even argued with the officials over a few calls during breaks, trying to understand their perspective on the same. But it’s not the only emotion she had for the officials. She even had some fun moments with refs when her team was in control of the game.

Caitlin Clark Calls It Easier Said Than Done
It’s not just the referees that Clark was focusing on. The talented guard kept eyes on match-ups and plays that other teams were playing while she was on the bench. She even shared her views and ideas with the coaching staff and teammates. But accepted that the layer on the court has much more to deal with.

“It’s so much easier said than done. When you’re actually in the heat of things. Like, the coaches give us so much grace, and you have to give your teammates grace, too. Like, they’re trying to manage so much and see so many different things at one time,” the Fever guard added based on her experience.
Caitlin Clark’s role from outside the court could be a great chance for the player to make an instant impact on her return. She now has a better understanding of her teammates and even opponents while observing the games.
