The writing was on the wall for a long time. With Stephanie White constantly bringing in grim Caitlin Clark updates, things got pretty somber. And now, the 23-year-old star has finally broken the dreaded news. Clark will be missing the rest of the season due to her groin injury. Now then, this comes as a teller blow for Indiana. As they are looking to get to the playoffs, Clark’s presence would have been a much-needed boost.
At the moment, Fever is struggling at the eighth position. And with time running out, the road to the playoffs is looking extremely difficult. Meanwhile, Clark’s injury not only made her team suffer but she also had to miss out on a WNBA record to Alyssa Thomas.
Alyssa Thomas Matches Caitlin Clark In An Exclusive WNBA Record
The Phoenix Mercury has been in some impressive form this year. And one of the biggest reasons for the team’s recent success has been the addition of Thomas. Now, she might be 33, but her antics on the court are proving that age for her is just a mere number. Playing against the Washington Mystics, Thomas helped her team clinch a 75-69 win. And with yet another sublime performance, she entered an exclusive club that belonged solely to Clark till now.

As per PolyMarket Hoops, Thomas is now tallying 330 assists in a single season. And this is surely a huge achievement as the 33-year-old became just the second athlete to enter the list. Delivering a solid performance, Thomas dropped 12 points, nine rebounds, and 11 assists. And while these numbers look impressive, her overall average this season stands at 15.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 9.2 assists.

Surely, Mercury will be banking on Thomas to further the proceedings in the season. In fact, impressed by her antics, Sheryl Swoopes backed Thomas for WNBA MVP over Napheesa Collier. Meanwhile, coming back to Clark, she would have added to her tally of assists had she not been sidelined with a season-ending injury.

Caitlin Clark Out Of The Season With Groin Injury
Clark had been one of the biggest stars of the WNBA. With her impeccable performance, the 23-year-old changed the dynamics of the league altogether. And all of that she did in just one year! Quite expectedly, Fever wanted her to play a bigger role this season. Unfortunately, things did not pan out accordingly. And after a lot of back-and-forth, Clark has finally announced that she won’t be able to come back this year.

“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season... spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty,” said Clark.
Surely, with the Fever struggling, this is a telling blow for them. Now, it remains to be seen whether the team can honor Clark by putting up some impressive performances in the future.
