The Indiana Fever’s 2025 season has been a rollercoaster that nobody saw coming. They kicked things off as legit title contenders, snagging the Commissioner’s Cup. But fast-forward to now, with fewer than 10 games left, and they’re clinging to the eighth spot in the WNBA standings. And much of that hangs in the balance with Caitlin Clark edging towards recovery from injury.
The Fever are just one game ahead of the ninth-place Los Angeles Sparks. Injuries have hit them like a truck, and all eyes are on their rookie superstar, Clark. Could her comeback be the spark they need to sneak into the playoffs?
Fever’s Playoff Chances Hang In Balance On Caitlin Clark’s Return
With an already shorthanded roster, Clark’s been out for a brutal 15 straight games with groin and ankle issues, missing a whopping 25 total this year. This also includes that early preseason quad tweak.

She recently showed up for shootaround and warmups before Sunday’s matchup in Minnesota, but hasn’t hit practice yet, so Clark’s return timeline is still up in the air. However, coach Stephanie White is keeping it real. She recently acknowledged that the Fever have “been dealt a crappy hand, but we gotta play it.”

But for the team, the hits keep coming while they chase the playoff dream. In addition to the Iowa alum, point guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson went down with season-enders in the same game against Phoenix. Ten days later, sharpshooter Sophie Cunningham, who was draining threes at 43.2 percent, blew out her knee and called it quits for the year.

Right when their fanbase thought the rough patch had delivered all that it had, Odyssey Sims tweaked her groin mid-game, forcing vet Shey Peddy into action after a quick signing. They even brought in Aerial Powers for wing depth, where Lexie Hull’s basically flying solo.
Caitlin Clark’s Long Absence Leads Fever To Sign Multiple Players
Despite playing peekabo with an exact timeline for return, the Fever front office decided to make some much-needed signings. In Sophie Cunningham’s absence, the Fever turned to veteran point guard Shey Peddy.
While it’s chaos all around for the camp, Peddy sees the fight.
“You can tell everybody here is together, they still want to fight, they still know we have a chance to make the playoffs, nobody has given up,” she said.
Though it sounds all positive at the Indiana base, there are challenges waiting ahead for them. And if Clark returns soon, it could very well flip the script.
