Fans have waited months for one special moment, for Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers sharing the court as pros for the first time. Fans expected this to be the highlight of the week for the WNBA.
The Indiana Fever, going against the Dallas Wings, looked huge on the calendar when Bueckers was drafted first overall. But just hours before the big day, Clark’s injury news turned that excitement into doubt. The hype is shaky, and ticket prices have dropped hard as fans question if the central star will even play.
Caitlin Clark’s Injury Rocks Ticket Sales For Fever-Wings
Right before coming into the game against the Wings, the Fever made a sudden announcement. Clark’s groin injury sidelined her and weakened the Fever lineup. She hurt her groin right before the match-up, and her status remains unclear.
However, fans marked June 27 months ago because this was supposed to be Clark vs. Bueckers, a clash of two future faces of the sport. These two young stars both average strong numbers. They both fill arenas wherever they play. Their first WNBA game against each other should have sold out in minutes.

The Wings even moved the game to the American Airlines Centre in Dallas, which holds 20,000 fans. It is three times bigger than their normal arena. However, one day before tip-off, Colin Salao of Front Office Sports showed how much Clark’s injury news changed things.
“The uncertainty around Clark’s availability has caused a drop in ticket prices for Friday’s game,” Salao wrote. “Based on SeatGeek, the ‘get-in’ ticket price is down to $115 on Thursday afternoon, down 40% from $190 on Thursday morning, hours before the Fever announced Clark’s injury.”

Will Fans Get Their Caitlin Clark vs. Bueckers Dream Matchup Or Miss Out?
Friday was expected to be one of the WNBA’s biggest nights this season, the first pro battle between Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers. But Clark’s groin injury may put that showdown on hold. The Fever have already ruled her out for Thursday’s home game against the Sun.
Her status for Friday’s game in Dallas is still up in the air. Fever head coach Stephanie White called her “day-to-day.”
Steph White said Caitlin Clark reported pain to the training staff last night, then got an MRI on her groin.

The uncertainty has already hit ticket prices. Even when she sat out a Sky game earlier this month, Chicago sold out the United Center with nearly 20,000 fans. Ticket prices took a hit, but the crowd still showed up for a chance to see her team. And even if Clark doesn’t play Friday, the game could still pull big TV numbers.
Fans still hope Clark’s recovery surprises everyone. If she plays, they get the superstar showdown they’ve wanted since March Madness. If not, they’ll have to wait a little longer for this next chapter.
