The Los Angeles Sparks made a strong push for the playoff spot, winning nine out of 11 games since July 13. Fans were happy with the progress after a slow start. Their only wish was to see the team extend the stretch and have the full squad healthy for the postseason.
Sadly, those dreams were crushed in one game. The three-time champs not only lost to the New York Liberty but also saw their top defensive star, Cameron Brink, leave the court injured. HC Lynne Roberts provided an update at the end of the game.
HC Lynne Roberts Sheds Light On Cameron Brink’s Injury
In the second quarter, the 2024 rookie felt an issue with her ankle once again and went into the locker room. Fans were concerned when she didn’t come back after halftime. Midway into the third quarter, Brink returned to the bench, which was a positive sign, but she did not play for a second.
After the game, HC Lynne Roberts provided an update on Cam’s injury.
“I have not talked to the medical team yet, but she tweaked her ankle. She’s still on a minutes restriction, so the decision was to not to bring her back in,” Roberts said in the post-game interview (Via X/IraGorawara)

Brink played for just five minutes in the game and scored two points. She also had three rebounds before exiting the game. Since her return, the star has yet to clock over 16 minutes as she averages just under 13 minutes in the 2025 season. During that period, she had 6.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and two blocks per game.

LA Sparks HC Praises Cameron Brink’s Impact On Games
The star forward made an emotional return to the lineup from a complicated ACL injury. Many thought it would take her some time to adjust to the league, but she excelled in every assignment. HC Roberts also found it helpful in terms of team dynamics. Since coming back, the star has also set a few records in seven games played.

“What I love in a roster is having diversity in terms of different players bringing different things. I think Cam is super athletic and long, and we all know her shot blocking. But one of the benefits of rehabbing a knee is you get to do a lot of stationary shooting, she’s done a lot of that. I think with her and Dearica [Hamby] and Azurá [Stevens], all three of them are very different, and that’s what I like, is that versatility,” Lynne Roberts told the media.
She also added that the player allows her to have quick players on the court, which helps the side offensively. The Stanford star’s return gave the side a chance to make the postseason. HC also added that she wants to give the 23-year-old star more responsibilities per game to prepare her for the postseason.
