The NBA season has completed more than 50 games now, with teams and players already setting the tone and preparing for the postseason. While there are candidates for various individual accolades, the race for the MVP award is intense. Candace Parker has her favourite sorted out, though.
In discussion with Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter, the former WNBA champion named Luka Doncic as a suitable winner. Earlier in the season, Doncic’s fourth-quarter jumper against the Minnesota Timberwolves won over Parker, and seeing his ability and consistency, she chose the Lakers’ guard for the MVP award.

Candace Parker Vouches For Luka Doncic
While discussing the 2025-26 NBA MVP, McGrady took the Celtics guard Jaylen Brown’s name. Providing his reasons, he said that though the players’ stats are moderate, he is playing with a weaker team as the Celtics lost four key players before the start of the season. The legendary forward added that the Celtics are still doing well because of Brown.
Countering his claims, the former Sparks player said, “Don’t Kobe Luka. Don’t get bored with greatness. Luka Doncic is a beast, and I feel like, to some extent, we overlook greatness because you see it for an extended period of time. What Luka is doing, we cannot get bored with that. If you win MVP, it’s this year.”

She gave T-Mac’s example only to prove her point, as the former Rockets’ star never won the MVP award despite being one of the most skilled and dominant players during his time.

Doncic’s numbers and performances support Parker’s claim that he could face a challenge from hai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic this season.
While the three-time WNBA champ spoke on the NBA’s greatness and MVP awards, the star received a huge compliment from Carmelo Anthony, who mentioned her as the GOAT in the WNBA instead of A’ja Wilson.
Candace Parker Overlooks Comparisons With A’ja Wilson
After the 2025 WNBA championship and MVP award, many compared Wilson with Michael Jordan, calling her the WNBA’s GOAT. The Aces’ star also reacted to the Michael Jordan comparisons and called it mind-blowing. Carmelo Anthony, though, ranked Parker above Wilson from his experience and the capabilities he saw in the Sparks’ forward.
Reacting to the same, Parker said, “I don’t get into one on one battles mean I think that’s kind of who cares. I feel like there’s a lot of players that can go out and get buckets on certain guys but they’re not going to be able to do what they did in their career.”
Parker also had an illustrious career and earned a spot in AP’s All-time list ahead of A’ja Wilson and many other legendary forwards from the league.
