The WNBA has found itself in a bit of a pickle at the moment. With the athletes unhappy about the CBA negotiations, things are looking pretty complicated. And with each passing day, the unrest is also getting transferred to the fans. Initially, it was the players who wore ‘Pay Us What You Owe Us T-shirts’ during the All-Star game. Now, as the Las Vegas Aces played the Phoenix Mercury in the finals, the fans vehemently booed Cathy Engelbert. So much so that Candace Parker was left surprised.
The WNBA commissioner has been out of the WNBA fans’ good books for some time. During the final, A’ja Wilson had a hilarious reaction to the fans booing Engelbert. And now, WNBA legend Parker, too, shared her take on the matter.
Candace Parker Makes Honest Admission About Cathy Engelbert
The WNBA commissioner was in the firing line of Napheesa Collier recently. In her exit interview, the Lynx’s star pointed out that the main threat to WNBA players was not financial. However, it was the league leadership that was to blame. Collier lashed out at the commissioner, accusing her of a lack of accountability. Now, while Engelbert did issue a statement following Collier’s outburst, it did not do enough to mitigate the damage. Looking at the incident, Parker was left pretty much stunned in a recent episode of her podcast, ‘Post Moves.’

“That was crazy. She was talking at the beginning to give the championship trophy, people booed. Then there was a pause, and then she gets to come back up there and give the… Finals MVP to A’ja. They booed the entire time. It was wild,” said Parker.

With all the backlashes coming in, fans speculated that the league commissioner might be stepping down from her role. However, in a recent statement, Engelbert reaffirmed her commitment to the WNBA. Meanwhile, coming back to Parker reacting to the latest controversies, she recently disapproved of Angel Reese’s fiery rant about her teammates.

Candace Parker Unhappy With Angel Reese’s Viral Interview
Angel Reese had the entire WNBA realm riled up. Following the Sky’s poor performance, the Chicago star appeared for an interview with the Chicago Tribune. Speaking about the season, the 23-year-old commented on how the head coach had to be a bit more stern. She also stated that, apart from Kamilla Cardoso and herself, none of her teammates would be coming back next year. And while such statements made waves of controversy, Parker felt that the Chi-Town Barbie went a little too far with her words.

“The best advice I ever received was to keep things in-house. You can yell, scream, cuss, do all those things in between these walls, but you can’t bring it out. And once that happens, it’s hard to gain that trust back,” said Parker.
Surely, Parker does not seem to be someone beating around the bushes. And with so much happening in the WNBA at the moment, fans will be waiting to hear from Parker in the future.
