Candace Parker had been one of the most iconic names in her playing days. However, as she retired from the game, the WNBA star transitioned into the role of an analyst. And surprisingly, she soon became a significant hit in the broadcasting community.
And her latest role has enabled the WNBA icon to put forth her takes on various issues. For example, Parker referred to Cathy Engelbert getting booed in the WNBA finals as crazy.
Now, with the offseason settling in, there has been a popular trend of the WNBA franchises favoring NBA coaches. And this is not something that Parker is okay with. Taking a stance for the female coaches, the former WNBA icon had some harsh words to deliver.
Candace Parker Lashes Out At NBA Male Coach Favoritism
At the moment, the WNBA is getting a boom and is expanding rapidly. And as the franchises are looking to add more quality, a concerning trend has been emerging lately. Most franchises are looking to hire male coaches who have significant experience in coaching in the NBA.

Reflecting on the same on an episode of ‘Post Moves’ podcast, Parker stated, “I just think that the WNBA is a copycat league and … has had success in coaches that have come from the NBA. But the problem that I have is a lot of the coaches that are going to come from the NBA are not going to be women.”

Trending WNBA News
Well, Parker might have a point here. Looking at the recent trend, the likes of Alex Sarama and Nate Tibbetts have had significant NBA experience. However, according to Becky Hammon, that alone does not guarantee the credibility of a coach. Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Parker has spoken out in favor of female coaches in the WNBA.
Candace Parker Expresses Worries About Concerning NBA Trend
As more and more NBA assistant coaches are being considered for WNBA positions, the scope for female coaches is becoming limited. In a recent update, the likes of New York Liberty sacked Sandy Brondello, who gave them a title run and also took the side to the playoffs. Yet, at the moment, the franchise is looking for an NBA assistant coach to take things forward.

Speaking on the same, Parker pointed out, “But the problem that I have is a lot of the coaches that are going to come from the NBA are not going to be women.”
Thus, it is evident that things are looking a bit confusing. However, as the league progresses, fans would like to see what happens next.
