Cathy Engelbert’s Response To Fans’ Demands
The WNBA All-Star game started with controversy as players entered the court with “Pay Us What You Owe Us” warm-up T-shirts. Photos and videos of it quickly went viral. Some fans supported the ‘W’ stars, while some tried to clear the scenario, bashing players for using the All-Star game as a platform.
During the WNBA commissioner’s speech, in-arena spectators supported the players with banners and ‘Pay Them’ chants. The 60-year-old sensed the situation and understood the assignment to handle it delicately. Addressing fans’ demands, she said, “You fans are what make it worth it,” pausing her speech. She then congratulated the winning team of the game.

Players Frustrated With WNBA’s Stand On CBA
The All-Star game was the best opportunity for the league and the players’ association to resolve their differences about the CBA deal. The WNBPA made their demands public. A pay raise proportional to the profit and improved facilities were their primary focus.
