Both sides have finally finalized the CBA deal for the next seven years. However, following the long fight, if there was a name that the WNBA players hated, it was that of Cathy Engelbert. Back in September, it all started with Napheesa Collier publicly lashing out at the WNBA commissioner.
Accusing her for lack of accountability, the Minnesota Lynx star had a lot of negatives to share. Soon, names like A’ja Wilson joined in on the criticism, too. But despite the discontent and the rumors of her stepping down, Engelbert decided to continue with her position at the WNBA. Mysteriously, when asked about her future, Adam Silver remained mysteriously silent.

Adam Silver Is Doubtful About Cathy Engelbert’s Future
Engelbert and the players’ union finally came to a conclusion. As the WNBA commissioner promised a historic CBA, the players seem to be very happy with what they got. And not only them, the internal stakeholders too, look satisfied with how Engelbert has handled the situation.
Yet, despite lauding her for her work during the six and a half years’ tenure, NBA commissioner Silver didn’t provide clarity on the matter. When asked about the same, Silver said, “We haven’t had those discussions yet with the WNBA board. I would only say Cathy has done a fantastic job since she’s come to the WNBA. Obviously, you could see [that] in the results.”
Silver con't: "I would say the results speak for themselves."

Says owners are "very happy" with Engelbert's work.
Well, this is not the first time rumors have suggested that the 61-year-old could lose her job. Last year, too, amidst the CBA fiasco, there were speculations about Engelbert possibly stepping down. But instead, she dismissed the notion and has now managed to get the situation under control.

And exactly for this reason, Silver has extended some heavy words of praise for the WNBA commissioner.
Adam Silver Praises Cathy Engelbert For Her Dedication
In recent years, many have subjected the 61-year-old to heavy scrutiny. Allegedly overlooking Caitlin Clark’s impact, Sophie Cunningham did not mince words. Thankfully, overcoming all the odds, Engelbert seems to have impressed the front office.
Reflecting on her work as the commissioner, Silver said, “People were very pleased with where we came out on the WNBA side. I’ve talked to many players directly, read the reports coming out of collective bargaining. I’m really pleased that both sides feel that it’s a fair outcome.”
Thus, with mixed signals coming in, fans will wait to see what the future holds for Engelbert.
