It’s pretty fascinating how fast the situation can change. Only last December, the players were sure about voting in favor of a strike. But come February 2026, a lot of them are reconsidering the strike option. Well, as has been the norm for the last eighteen months, the WNBA-CBA tussle is very much on.
With the deadline being pushed back thrice, the future of the league remains pretty much uncertain at the moment. And while ESPN previously reported about a possible rift within the WNBPA, recent discussions have further widened the gap. As some of the players are ready to compromise, it looks like the unity among the players is becoming fragile.

WNBPA Meeting Gets Heated With Players Opting To Compromise
Following a counterproposal from the WNBA that allows 15% revenue sharing, the union recently called its members for a virtual meeting. Unfortunately, things did not go as per the plans as several players within the committee did not support the idea of going on strike.
And this resulted in a heated confrontation between the members. Thankfully, despite the division in opinion, the majority of the union still stuck with the idea of work stoppage if things went south.
Front Office Sports’ Annie Costabile reported the same on X (formerly Twitter) as she wrote, “The WNBPA held a virtual meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the state of CBA negotiations, the tone of which became tense almost immediately. Among the reasons for that tension, according to multiple sources, is the approach to negotiations and a potential strike.”

This is quite a significant development considering the fact that the WNBA recently put pressure on the union. Cathy Engelbert and co. dropped a March 10 deadline to sort out the ongoing stalemate. They also pointed out that failing to do so might severely affect the upcoming 2026 season.
Meanwhile, as the situation grows more complicated, players like Cameron Brink have started turning to the fans as a last resort.
Why Is Cameron Brink Asking The Fans To Help WNBPA?

Till now, the WNBPA’s fight for equal pay has received a lot of support. Names like Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, and Nneka Ogwumike have extended their wholehearted support. Even NCAA coaches like Dawn Staley too, stood beside the players’ movement. Unfortunately, all of these calls for equity till now have been futile. Thus, the Los Angeles Sparks’ star is calling out all the fans to rally behind them.
“There’s so much, and it’s such a layered issue, but I would really just say to the fans and to the people that support us, please continue that support and let us know that we’re valid in what we’re asking for. As women, we’re made to feel bad about wanting more and advocating for more for ourselves, but I think it’s just so important to know your worth, and we know we’re worth more,” Brink said in an interview with ESPN.
Well, there’s no certainty about the deadlocks’ status. As both parties are adamant with their own stance, fans will keep a watchful eye on how things proceed next.
