While the Las Vegas Aces won the WNBA championship this year, A’ja Wilson surely took the limelight. The likes of Becky Hammon compared her to Michael Jordan and LeBron James. However, as Wilson enjoys her own sweet time, there is another name without whom the Aces’ victory would have been impossible. And that is Chelsea Gray.
Gray has been with the Aces for quite some time now. She joined the team back in February 2021 as an unrestricted agent. And while she has witnessed the rise of the Aces, the WNBA veteran is making sure that she, too, is getting the limelight.
Chelsea Gray Achieves A Rare WNBA Feat
Gray might be 33 years old at the moment. But she is still going strong. In fact, owing to her sublime form in the middle, the Aces star has often been referred to as the ‘Point Gawd.’ And what’s more? The Aces star is now the only active player to have won the championship on four different occasions. Surely, this is something that has made Gray eclipse even the star of the show for Las Vegas this season, A’ja Wilson.

As the official Instagram accounts of both WNBA and NBA highlighted Gray’s achievements, the star veteran revealed how special it meant for her. “Man, they counted me out bro. They said a lot of noise, man. But champions take care of everything,” said Gray.
Well, the feat is much more impressive than it actually sounds at face value. Apart from Gray, only a handful of the WNBA legends have been able to win four championships. She now sits on equal ground with Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Seimone Augustus, Sheryl Swoopes, Tina Thompson, and Cynthia Cooper. Now then, the 33-year-old veteran has clinched a lot of accolades this season. Gray passed Kelsey Plum for second in the Aces’ All-time assists list. However, away from the glitz and glamour of her career, the Aces star also had a strong say in the ongoing CBA talks.

Chelsea Gray Calls For Fair Treatment In WNBA
The WNBA realm has been hit with a complicated situation. The athletes have been calling for equal pay as they are not satisfied with the revenue-sharing percentage offered by the WNBA. In a recent turn of events, Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier added further fuel to the fire. She publicly lashed out at the league commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, accusing her of a lack of accountability.

And joining her in protest was Chelsea Gray. After their 97-86 victory against the Mercury, Gray lashed out at the league leadership for their treatment of players. She said, “When you have great players. You need to treat them like that.” Supporting her take, Wilson also chimed in, saying, “Don’t play in our faces.” Surely, the situation is looking extremely volatile for the league. With the NBA offering a 50% revenue sharing to the players, the 7% offered by the WNBA has made the players quite agitated. And while things are looking pretty complicated, it now remains to be seen what happens next.
