A’ja Wilson’s record-breaking finals MVP led the Aces to the title. With the Aces already coming into Game 4 3-0 up, all they needed was a win. And with Wilson in fiery form, the Aces did not have to break a sweat. However, despite the celebrations kicking in, there has been an air of uncertainty over the league. And Chelsea Gray recently highlighted the same as the Aces took over the WNBA realm.
The CBA deadline is fast approaching on October 31. Unfortunately, things are still looking quite murky as far as the negotiations are concerned. Thus, with the finals drawing such a significant viewership, Gray was quick to question in favor of the players.
Chelsea Gray Highlights Financial Woes As A’ja Wilson & Co. Makes Merry
Following the Aces’ 97-86 win over the Mercury, Gray took a jab at the WNBA commissioner, Cathy Engelbert. For a long time now, there has been a dispute among the players over equal pay. As it stands now, the WNBA offers a 7% revenue share to its athletes as compared to the NBA’s 50%. And as the athletes have been demanding equal pay, there have been no concrete plans being offered.

Frustrated at how the league leadership is treating the players, Aces’ guard stated, “When you have great players. You need to treat them like that.” And that was not all. Wilson immediately chimed in with her take on the matter. She said, “Don’t play in our faces.”

Surely, such comments have only heightened the tensions further. In the meantime, Wilson had a hilarious reaction as fans booed Engelbert during the trophy presentation. Recently, Wilson also made her feelings known as Napheesa Collier blasted Engelbert.

A’ja Wilson Supports Napheesa Collier’s Cathy Engelbert Criticism
The tension is palpable among the WNBA stars at the moment. Despite the season coming to a close, the CBA negotiations will surely keep things on the edge. And in the midst of all these, Minnesota Lynx’s star, Collier, came up with a fiery statement. Lashing out at Engelbert, she stated how the leadership did not care for the well-being of the players. Collier also called the WNBA leadership the ‘worst.’ Soon after her outburst, the likes of Wilson came forward in her support.

“I was honestly disgusted by the comments that Cathy made. But at the same time, I’m very appreciative that we have people like Phee in our committee of players’ association representing us, because that’s what we are going to have to continue to make the push to stand on what we believe in. I’m grateful to have those types of people be able to continue to speak up for us,” Wilson said.
Surely, despite Vegas winning the title, things are far from rosy in the WNBA. With so much going on, it remains to be seen what happens next.
