The WNBA is entering a new wave of popularity with the new CBA (when confirmed) and young stars bringing in a massive fanbase. Yet there are a few names that remained in the limelight, despite being away from the league. One such name is the Chicago Sky’s Chennedy Carter.
The Sky franchise opted not to extend her qualifying contract, and she remained a free agent in the 2025 season. Recently, Carter’s cryptic announcement post sparked her Unrivaled Debut rumors, which were also false. However, she silenced all the doubters with her special accolade in the Chinese league, the WCBA.

Chennedy Carter Dominating WCBA
During the 2025 roster trimming, the Sky franchise cut ties with Chennedy Carter, who then played in a Mexican team, the Adelitas de Chihuahua, for a while before switching to the WCBA. The player remained one of the top scorers in the league with multiple 40+ point games and the highest score of 44 for the Wuhan-based team.
She finished the year, averaging 30.9 points per game while shooting 52.8% from two-point range. Along with the high-scoring performances, the guard averaged six rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

Although many praised the former Texas A&M player for her on-court grit and abilities, her off-court actions negatively impacted her image in the league, resulting in a longer period of inactivity. But that didn’t stop the star from keeping tabs on the league as Carter praised the underdog Indiana Fever in the recent playoff semi-finals.
Chennedy Carter Wants To Make a Legacy In the WNBA
The player misses the league, and her social media activities clearly highlight her love for her franchise. On one occasion, a fan posted ‘Chicago Sky’s concerning pattern where the franchise let go of many stars who went on to become the megastars and won titles with other franchises.
The fan mentioned many names like Sylvia Fowles, Elena Delle Donne, Candace Parker, Kahleah Copper, Courtney Williams, Alanna Smith, Azura Stevens, Emma Meesseman, Gabby Williams, Kristi Toliver, Candice Dupree, and Julie Allemand. The 27-year-old star reacted to the post and asked, “I think you’re forgetting someone.”
