There’s no end to the Chicago Sky’s troubles. The franchise is on the verge of missing the postseason for the second consecutive season. Poor show from the role players put them under pressure, and on top of that, the team’s star performer, Angel Reese, is on the verge of a one-game suspension.
Although the forward is already out of action due to back issues, her day-to-day status hints at a possible early return. Regarding the ‘suspension situation,’ the team is working with the league to find a way out.
Chicago Sky Looking To Work With WNBA Over Angel Reese’s Technical Fouls
Right after the All-Star game, the Chi-Town Barbie received her seventh technical foul against the Minnesota Lynx. As per the new rules, eight technical fouls will result in a direct one-game suspension. This puts the forward under a tech foul away from suspension. Though the suspension has not yet been confirmed, the franchise is already working on getting her a few fouls rescinded.
Head coach Tyler Mash spoke to the media about the subject during the latest practice session.
“We’ve done our work on our side to try to get a couple of those rescinded in the moment and beyond, and that’s up to the league’s discretion. I think, across the board, it’s part of the entertainment of the game. It’s hard to control the passion in the heat of the moment,” HC told the media in an interview (Via X/ChiStateOfMind_).
The former NCAA champion is famous for her competitive and outspoken nature. She blasted referees and took her anger out on her coaching staff over a ‘wrong officiating call’. These actions attracted a few ‘unnecessary’ technical fouls. Getting a few fouls rescinded will give them some chance to work with the star.

However, while the discussions started well before the game against the Indiana Fever on July 27, fans and the front office will be waiting for a positive response from the league.
Angel Reese’s Absence Costing Chicago Sky Games
In 2024, the franchise made several trades to advance in the draft. They selected the LSU forward as the seventh overall pick, forming a formidable forward pairing with Kamila Cardoso. The star had a blistering rookie season and earned an All-Star call.

The league’s leading rebounders in 2024 continued her top form in 2025 and notched up several records with her double-double outings. In the absence of other starters like Cardoso and Courtney Vandersloot, the forward held the offense and defense to put up a strong challenge.
Without her, the side struggled miserably. The Sky recently suffered a 38-point humiliation against the Storm without the 2024 rookie. The team even lost both their games without her in 2025. In the previous season, the side recorded only one win in four games without their superstar.
