Following the finalization of the CBA deal, energy is high among WNBA franchises. With the 2026 expansion draft coming in, things are looking extremely promising. While a major part of WNBA players remain unsigned in free agency, teams have started devising ways to protect as many players as possible.
This year, the Portland Fire will be picking ahead of the Toronto Tempo. And while both teams are entitled to pick from a selected pool of players, the Chicago Sky have pulled off a masterstroke. According to recent news, the Sky front office has given up its draft picks to the new teams.

What Are The Details Of Chicago Sky’s Deal With Portland Fire And Toronto Tempo?
Sky joined hands with the Fire to send them the No.17 pick in the 2026 collegiate draft. And that was not all. They also sent their No. 26 to Tempo. This was a smart move as it would now prevent both the expansion teams from acquiring Sky’s players.
This was reported by ‘Front Office Sports’ as their X (formerly Twitter) update read, “The Chicago Sky just pulled off a pair of trades with both WNBA expansion teams, the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo. The deal will block both teams from selecting a Chicago player in Friday’s expansion draft.”

However, despite sacrificing a couple of trades, Chicago will still have the No. 5, No. 21 overall, and No. 32 overall picks to play with. According to the new draft rules, one unprotected player per team will be available for both Tempo and Fire to choose from. Meanwhile, following a disastrous season, Angel Reese looks for nothing but to win.

Angel Reese Sets Stiff Goals For Chicago Sky In 2026

Reese had a decent season last year. But the same cannot be said for her team, the Chicago Sky. Delivering a dismal performance, the Sky finished towards the bottom of the table. While she had a public fallout with some of her teammates, putting everything behind her, the 23-year-old wants to start afresh.
“Win win win win. 2026, I am looking for the playoffs. I am trying to get to the playoffs. I hate to be at home watching finals. It is not great. I wanna be in the finals. Just give me the finals, just give me the playoffs,” said Reese.
