The Sky is falling. Despite some heroic performances from Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, Chicago currently stands 11th in the league, potentially wrapping up the season in September. But before that, the team could look to make some provision for the future. An attractive trade prospect on the roster is Rachel Banham.
A trade before the deadline day could be on the cards, handing the side a chance to rebuild. The team will look for a buyer for the talented guard and get some draft picks and role players in exchange.
Valkyries Could Bid For Chicago Sky’s Rachel Banham
With the trade deadline date (August 7) approaching, there are many rumors surrounding the teams. The bottom-placed teams are seen as sellers, while the teams eyeing the postseason could be buyers in the market. For the 32-year-old guard, this is the crucial time.
She is averaging 9.3 points in 23 minutes with nearly 40% accuracy. She also records 1.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists with just over one turnover per game. These are her career best numbers and are attractive enough for the sides looking for a backup guard. The Valks could use her experience and offensive game to fine-tune their gameplay.

In an article on Tuesday, Jack Maloney of CBS Sports detailed the projected buyers and sellers in 2025 midseason trades. For Sky, there is no other option but to be a seller in the market, given their poor performance so far.
“The Sky should be sellers at the deadline. Rebecca Allen and Rachel Banham figure to draw the most interest from other teams due to their shooting ability, but the Sky really should listen to just about any offer that doesn’t involve Reese or Cardoso,” Maloney wrote in his article.

A move away from the bottom-placed team and playing in the playoff team would be a massive upgrade for the former Minnesota player. The Golden State franchise relies more on its guards for playmaking. The star could also benefit from having a ‘hungry’ team around her.
How Would Rachel Banham Fit In Valkyries’ Rotation
Despite occupying eighth place in the league standings, the Golden State Valkyries struggled offensively in the ‘W’. They rank 10th in a 13-team league with an offensive rating of 100. The wins and losses point differential is also low, highlighting the team’s need at the both ends of the floor.

Looking to make history as the first expansion team in the playoffs in its inaugural season, the Valks had been in the trade talks for a guard. They could use Banham’s offensive punch over Bree Hall, Julie Vanloo, and Kaitlyn Chen. The veteran guard also has playoff experience, more than the three players mentioned above.
