The Chicago Sky had a second chance, since drafting Angel Reese, to build a team that would compete for the title. However, the plan didn’t work for the Windy City franchise, as they missed the playoffs and even earned the bottom spot in ESPN’s following season power ranking.
But Tyler Marsh and Co. are ready to prove the predictions wrong. They might have just found the perfect way with the returning rookie Ajsa Sivka.
Though there is a lot to expect from Ajsa Sivka in the upcoming season, the franchise also added a key rebuilding piece in the coaching staff.

Chicago Sky Looking To Make Angel Reese Happy With New Coaching Hire
Tyler Marsh entered the franchise with lots of promises. Although his tactics didn’t work as expected, the coach improved performances from star players like Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese.
Now he will have perfect support from his assistant coach as Sky hires Latricia Trammell as special assistant coach.
Why will that be useful and convincing to Angel Reese? The answer lies in Trammell’s resume. The 57-year-old has been working as a coach for nearly three decades now and joined the WNBA in 17.

She guided and improved multiple superstars like Candace Parker, Nneka Ogwumike, and Chelsea Gray in her career, with every star winning individual accolades with their performances.

Moreover, the head coach guided the 2023 Dallas Wings to the semifinals. Recent improvements in the Los Angeles Sparks’ forward lineup are partly due to Trammell.
As for the Chicago Sky, both Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso will benefit from the new addition, which will indirectly impact the game results and season standings.
While the addition of a coach might not be enough to see drastic changes in the team’s performance, it’s really a perfect step in the right direction to achieve the ultimate goal.
Angel Reese Is Still Chicago Sky’s Center Piece For Rebuilding
At the end of the 2025 season, the 2024 rookie was clearly frustrated with the final result and spoke openly about major improvement. Her comments sparked a possible trade rumor with many possible destinations on the cards.
GM Jeff Pagliocca quickly addressed the Reese trade rumors, assuring that the franchise is still looking to build around the former NCAA champion. The forward delivered high-end performances for the side despite the team’s struggles on the court and even retained her ‘rebounding leader’ status in the league with double-double performances.
It’s interesting to see how the roster will shape via free agency and draft picks, but in the back office, the franchise is stronger for sure.
