The WNBA All-Star game is one of the biggest attractions of the league. This year, the event garnered limelight for the players’ protest as Kylie Kelce allegedly dropped an f-bomb on the WNBA. Surely, this is not the scenario that the WNBA wants around the All-Star game. And while the league wants the scenario to come back to normal, Cathy Engelbert had an interesting announcement to make.
It looks like the WNBA is already planning to make its upcoming season more exciting. Despite Engelbert being criticized vehemently for her alleged lack of accountability, her recent update will surely bring a smile to a lot of WNBA fans.
Cathy Engelbert Takes WNBA All-Star To Chicago
The league officially announced on Tuesday that the 2026 WNBA All-Star game will be played at Chicago’s United Center. The statement also dropped the date, scheduling it for July 25, Saturday. Now, such an announcement came as a pleasant surprise for the Chicago fans. This will be the second time that the WNBA All-Star action will come to Chicago.

In her recent announcement, Engelbert said, “The WNBA is thrilled to bring AT&T WNBA All-Star back to Chicago, which will undoubtedly deliver unforgettable competition and community outreach. Together with the Chicago Sky, we look forward to celebrating the game’s brightest stars, engaging WNBA fans around the world, and showcasing the energy of one of basketball’s most iconic cities.”

The Wintrust Arena hosted the All-Star game back in 2022. But this time around, the league is targeting an expanded audience. Home to the Bulls and the Blackhawks, the United Center has a much bigger capacity (20900) as compared to the Wintrust Arena (10380). Meanwhile, Engelbert’s All-Star announcement is not the only exciting update. Adam Silver recently teased about the league going global.

Adam Silver Hints At WNBA Going Global Soon
In one of the most fiery exit interviews, Napheesa Collier criticized Engelbert for a lack of accountability. And ever since then, the tension around the CBA talks has heightened drastically. During the WNBA finals trophy presentation, the entire arena booed Engelbert as she gave out the silver to the Las Vegas Aces. However, keeping aside all the drama, NBA commissioner Adam Silver hinted at some big prospects for the women’s league.

As the NBA is currently hosting a couple of preseason games in China, Silver stated that the WNBA doing the same might be a possibility.
“We have to get through a new collective bargaining agreement with our players. But once we do, there’s so much interest in women’s basketball here, I think we’d love to bring a WNBA game to Macao or to mainland China,” said Silver.
Thus, things are surely looking a bit rosy for the WNBA. However, they would now need to address the CBA situation at hand in a tactical manner.
