The WNBA free agency is in full flow with teams securing their core players via top offers and looking to add a few competitive proposals for other free agents. While the LA Sparks made a huge push by adding Nneka Ogwumike in the free agency, there have not been many free agent transfers for so long. Many predicted the Dallas Wings to be in a prime position to attract many free agents, but there has not been much promising news from Texas either.
Yet the franchise is one of the highest trump cards in the season, with the first overall pick in the 2026 WNBA draft. Analyst Chiney Ogwumike hilariously tried to get the name from GM Curt Miller, but failed to do so as she recently narrated the story.

Dallas Wings’ GM Keeps Top Pick Name Under Wraps
The WNBA sent official invites for the top players in the upcoming draft, officially starting the process for the election. While there are multiple WNBA mock drafts that show a number of possible player selections, every eye is on the top pick from the deepest draft class.
Analyst Chiney Ogwumike also tried to sneak in for the info, as she recently narrated the story. “Making a decision is very, very important, so I am very glad that the Dallas Wings are at least doing their due diligence to make the right decision. Even though Curt Miller, my former coach, my long-time coach, like Curt just give me the ‘T’ bro,” Ogwumike said.
Chiney says she calls and texts Curt Miller, her former longtime head coach, to ask him who he’s drafting no.1😭😭

She added that she called him and even texted him many times, but the response from the Wings’ GM was, “Cmon Chiney, you know I can’t tell you.”

While there are top four to five candidates for the top pick in the upcoming draft, the Wings will have to make sure that they get the perfect piece on April 13.
But ahead of any big addition via the WNBA draft or free agency, the Dallas Wings are already clearing out salary cap and space, hinting at a possible bigger incoming.
Dallas Wings Clear Out Space With Diamond Miller Trade
Ahead of the WNBA draft and ongoing free agency, the Wings made a bold move, sending their high-paid forward to the Connecticut Sun for a low-salaried star, freeing up some cap space. As per reports, the Wings traded Diamond Miller for Rayah Marshall.

While Miller joined the Dallas team in 2025, she played in just 15 games and averaged 3.9 points for the team. At 25, the player was the number 2 pick in the 2023 season, making her a high earner in the league under the new CBA.
In return, the Wings received veteran player and the last pick of the second round at No. 25 in 2025, who averaged 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in 15 games for the Sun. Although this would seem like a bit of a downgrade on the wings’ side, freeing up salary cap space makes a more important factor in the decision.
