The New York Liberty dug deep for their head coach position and hired Chris DeMarco from the Golden State Warriors’ coaching staff. The four championships and six finals appearances in a decade highlight the team’s dominance in the men’s league, while the Liberty will be expecting similar command in the Women’s league.
But the coach had other commitments before joining the 2024 WNBA champions and will be able to take charge in January. As for the Warriors, the side will be in action around New Year’s Eve, but DeMarco won’t be part of the game, as the game against the Nets was his final game in his current tenure.

New York Liberty To Welcome Chris DeMarco
The Golden State Warriors have been in and out of the playoff picture in the ongoing NBA Season, with the side finding it difficult to maintain consistency in the season. Currently, standing eighth in the Western Conference, the side will take on the Charlotte Hornets in its final game of the 2025 calendar year.
With that, the side also bid adieu to its assistant coach Chris DeMarco, who will be moving to the ‘W’ and taking charge of the most decorated franchise. He even delivered a speech in the Warriors’ locker room announcing his departure and received love from the Warriors players.
Thank you, CD, for over a decade of greatness.

While the side only has one draft pick in the WNBA draft, which is from the third round and 41st overall, the franchise will be looking to build the team ahead of the draft night. As for the coach, he also has significant tasks ahead.
Chris DeMarco Will Be Ready For New Challenge
The departure of Brondello and Sonia Raman as head coaches of Toronto Tempo and Seattle Storm, respectively, vacated two positions on the Liberty coaching staff. Also, Brondello’s husband, Olaf Lange, who was working as defensive coach for the side, also left the organization, adding another empty spot in the coaching department.

For DeMarco, filling these two positions is essential, and he will be looking to address the issue first. Along with the front office, he will also assist with free agency and draft selections.
