USA Basketball has invited 18 players to training camp, targeting preparations for the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The list included 10 new faces, a welcome sign for the young stars. Players like Veronica Burton earn a spot at USA Basketball senior camp, highlighting the preference for top performers in the recent season. Caitlin Clark, though played in just 13 games this season, was also on the list.
Considering her talent and capabilities, CC’s selection is unquestionable. However, Cristine Brennan was still not happy with USA Basketball’s one particular act and blasted them in her recent social media post.

Christine Brennan Criticizes USA Basketball WNBA Promotion Following Caitlin Clark Snub
The author of the book, “On Her Game: Caitlin Clark and the Revolution in Women’s Sport”, was already angry with the authorities for not selecting the Fever guard in the 2024 Olympic team. She questioned the selection process, highlighting CC’s performance in the season and college. In the post, USA Basketball included photos of Kahleah Cooper, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young, naming all the invitees.
Watching that CC is not on the graphic, Brennan wrote, “This is so interesting: if USA Basketball really wanted to go all out promoting WBB, bring new fans in, and get unprecedented attention for a team that dropped in TV viewership at the Paris Olympics, they would have added the photo of one other player to this graphic. But no.”

While she didn’t explicitly mention the former Iowa star, knowing her earlier rant and also the impact of CC that she referred to, it was clear that the Columnist was talking about Caitlin Clark.

But Brennan didn’t stop there and shared another post that reads, “I’ve covered the Olympics and US sports national governing bodies (NGBs) for 40+ yrs and plan to be covering them for many more. An NGB’s mission is to win medals but also grow its sport. USA Basketball utterly failed to grow WBB at the 2024 Olympics. This is a continuing story.”
As for the 24-year-old, Clark had already made her decision about Team USA basketball clear in her exit interview earlier. Now, after shining at the junior level, she will look to make a similar impact at the senior level of basketball, too.
Caitlin Clark’s Illustrious National Team Career
It’s not that the 2024 rookie was completely out of Team USA’s radar, as she represented the country in Under-19 and Under-16 competitions. CC won three gold medals, two at the U-19 FIBA World Cup and one at the FIBA U-16 Americas Cup.

She last played for the country in the 2021 FIBA World Cup, where she finished the tournament in first place, averaging 14.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.6 assists, and even won the tournament MVP award. The playmaker was in the All-Star Five in the competition.
As for the 2024 Olympic Games, Clark was invited to the USA Women’s National Team training camps in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics. But the Iowa star was unable to attend the April 2024 camp due to her participation in the NCAA Final Four.
