Women’s basketball became relevant again when Caitlin Clark burst onto the scene. As she surged ahead, the WNBA began to witness a boom in its revenue as new investors kept coming in. However, with the players demanding equal pay, the scenario suddenly took a sombre turn. As the CBA deal is getting pushed back constantly, the probability of a strike cannot be ruled out, as WNBPA VP Alysha Clark said.
Surprisingly, despite the sombre update, there have been some really interesting developments. The Unrivaled saw a massive $18 million jump in its revenue. And now, with things looking further upbeat, the Cleveland Charge recently celebrated women’s sports.

Expressing her excitement, Howard said, “I think these women-specific teams across everywhere — WNBA, NWSL, PWHL — those women coming back from winning the Olympics, they are filling up NHL arenas. It truly is rising tides raise all ships.”
Surely, with a lot happening, it looks like women’s sports are finally getting their deserved recognition. And as for Cleveland, President Howard is hoping for a bright future.
Allison Howard Hopes For A Merry WNBA Run For Cleveland

The WNBA is already expanding. With the Toronto Tempo and the Portland Fire joining the league from this year onward, Cleveland is also waiting for its turn in 2028. Thankfully for the team, they will have a significant backup from the Cavaliers. And this is something that Howard wants to capitalize on. In an earlier interview with Front Office Sports, she also mentioned how new brands have shown interest in the new team.
“Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Columbus are really important markets for us. We’re hearing from a lot of brands in those areas that do not have any affiliation with an NBA or WNBA team that are coming to us and asking how they can work with us, even though they’re two or three hours away,” said Howard.
