Things just got worse for the Chicago Sky. Angel Reese sat out the game against the Seattle Storm with a back injury. It was also a much-needed rest for the star forward. But it opened up significant shortcomings on the side that struggled without their regular starters. A 57-95 loss at home was a poor show.
Head Coach Tyler Marsh didn’t hold back on his assessment. While the 38-point defeat was their worst performance in the 2025 season, the coach refused to put a figure on injuries as the main reason.
Chicago Sky Coach Drops Honest Take After Loss Against Seattle Storm
The Windy City franchise started off the season on the wrong foot. A 35-point loss against the arch rivals, the Indiana Fever, was not a good sign. Yet many gave the side benefit with the new coach, new team, and time for preparation. Yet after 24 games, the signs are not positive, and the recent result was even worse than the opening night.
First-time head coach Marsh was furious but clear with his views on the loss. Many might consider the injuries could be the big reason behind the loss, but the 37-year-old coach put a different perspective in front of the press.
“You always have the personnel to compete. It’s not a talent thing right now. We’re looking for fight. Competing is what we’re looking for,” Marsh said in his postgame press conference (via X/@KarliBell33).
The players have struggled with consistency, and in the absence of their starters, they had a chance to step up and prove their worth. However, only Kamila Cardoso made a significant contribution with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Rachel Banham also scored 13 points, with the rest of the team finding difficulties netting the baskets in front of home supporters.

The loss also highlights AR5’s importance to the side. The superstar carried the team with her record-breaking performances. The games where she failed to perform or sat out look like a definite loss for the side.
Chicago Sky Crippled By Injuries
The former NBA assistant coach might be ‘hard’ on his side, but he spoke the truth. There is another truth about the team’s poor record so far: injuries. Their veteran guard and playmaker, Courtney Vandersloot, is out for a season with an ACL injury.

Apart from the Chi-Town Barbie, Ariel Atkins and Michaela Onyenwere were also out of the contest against the Storm. The Brazilian star center was out on national duty, putting a burden on AR5. While Atkins’ availability is still questionable, the forward pair could make their return against the Fever in the upcoming fixture.
The side now stands in 11th place with a 7-17 record. The chances of playing in the postseason are fading for the second season in a row for the 2021 WNBA Champions. The side needs to make up for the early struggles before it’s too late.
