The 2025 WNBA season has been a record-setting one, including the All-Star game. Napheesa Collier set a record for most points in the All-Star game, while Skylar Diggins also recorded the first triple-double in an All-Star game. While the regular season also saw multiple league and franchise records, the struggling Connecticut Sun set an unwanted record in the season.
Even after recording some shocking wins, the side stayed at the bottom of the table with other mounting losses. And now a loss against the Atlanta Dream handed them a franchise record.
Connecticut Sun’s Unwanted Record Following Loss Against Atlanta Dream
The decorated franchise has reached 17 playoffs in 23 seasons since moving to Connecticut. They even made it to the four WNBA playoffs, finishing runners-up in those series. But the 2025 season was cruel for the Sun. First, the owners tried to sell the loss-making business model to Boston minority owners. While the league is blocking the proceeding, the Sun owners came up with options to complete the sale.

The team handover situation is still in limbo, but the on-court performances are not encouraging either. After a loss against the Atlanta Dream, the 2025 side recorded its 30th loss, the most in franchise history. The Sun also has its lowest win record, .250. This is their lowest win ratio since the 2013 season, when they won 10 games out of 34.

Veteran stars had some memorable moments in the season. Tina Charles surpassed Sylvia Fowles in the league’s double-double record. She even made rebounding history, but the team’s struggles overshadowed her achievement. Sadly, there could be more distress for the Sun in the remainder of the season.

More Unwanted Records Possible For Connecticut Sun
While the 2025 roster set a record for most losses in a season, the final four games’ results could hand them a league record for most losses. As of now, the Dallas Wings, another struggling team in the 2025 season, holds the record for most losses in a season with 32 losses. They have three games left, while the Sun team has four games left in the season.
The Sun has games remaining against the Chicago Sky, Phoenix Mercury, and back-to-back games against the Dream. Looking at their schedule and records against the remaining opponents, the Sun could well end up with 34 losses in a season. If the Wings win either of the three games, both sides could end up with 34 losses, the most in the league.
