The WNBA offseason’ trade preparations’ are on hold due to the Unfinished CBA discussions; a few teams have already locked in their new head coaches. Dallas Wings announced Jose Fernandez as the new head coach, and now rumors suggest that Curt Miller is on the move to test the waters with teenage sensation Awa Fam.
No one would forget the 2025 draft luck that the Dallas basketball franchises had with two top picks – one in the WNBA and another in the NBA. The Texas franchises selected top prospects from the draft class and now have another opportunity to acquire generational talent.
Curt Miller Preparing Ground For Awa Fam?
For two seasons in a row, the Wings missed the playoffs and had the worst records in the league. This provides them a chance to enter the lottery draft. Now with the loaded 2026WNBA draft, the Dallas team has multiple choices to pair with their 2025 rookie of the year winner, Paige Bueckers. But the team wants to build fr the future and invest smartly in rookies to nurture them to the franchise icons.

While PB proved to be one of the best draft pick Wings they had in recent history, they can now aim for another generational talent in Awa Fam. The Valencia star is already making a buzz as a top foreign talent for the 2026 WNBA draft, and the Wings’ GM shared his travel plan to Valencia with the caption, “Blessed as basketball continues to take me all over the World.”
This clearly hints at a possible meeting between Miller and the player or the player’s representatives to explore the possibility of drafting her.

Dominique Malonga, the 2024 top foreign pick, proved herself in the league. Malonga became the youngest player to score a double-double in the playoffs and even made the All-Rookie team in the league. Adding similar talent will boost the Wings’ chances for postseason contention.
Awa Fam Could Be Massive Upgrade In Forward Line For Dallas Wings
In the 2025 season, the Dallas Wings lacked a consistent forward who would complement Paige Bueckers under the basket. While the UConn superstar was running the floor and making mid-range jumpers and range shots, she missed an internal support (like Sarah Strong at UConn).
The Spanish superstar could be the player with immaculate decision-making and offensive flair. During her game against Fenerbahce, she made baskets on transition, traditional pick-n-roll plays, and even dove to the rim. While she overpowered the veteran powerhouses under the post, the 19-year-old even made both catch and shoot opportunities from the range.
While Spanish teen sensation Awa Fam’s standout performance boosts her case for a 2026 WNBA draft lottery pick, the Wings’ attempt to lure her could be a wise move from Curt Miller.
