The WNBA’s recent growth in popularity comes with the emergence of some big stars. And while Caitlin Clark is one of the major names, Chicago Sky star Angel Reese, too, has been a pivotal factor. With her team faltering big time this season, the 23-year-old has continued to put up impressive numbers. And despite a Seattle Storm commentator savaging Reese for rebounding of her own shots, WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper seems to be utterly pleased.
Reese faced a lot of criticism last season. With her rivalry with Clark gaining momentum, the 23-year-old has come out as an improved athlete. Her overall shooting has gotten drastically better. Now then, looking at her iron-clad grit despite all the negatives, Cooper cannot help but heap praises on the Chi-Town Barbie.
Cynthia Cooper Gives A Huge Shout Out To Angel Reese
Cooper recently appeared on an episode of the ‘We Need To Talk Now’ podcast. Speaking about the recent stars in the WNBA, the very first name she mentioned was that of Reese. Praising the 23-year-old, Cooper stated that many have thrown hatred and negativity at the Sky star. However, Reese has remained undeterred and has been continuously proving her worth in the face of adversity. Moreover, while analyzing the Chi-Town Barbie’s journey, the WNBA legend said it reminded her of herself.

“She reminds me of me when I was starting out and I didn’t care. Say what you want to say. I’m bringing my A-game tonight. You’re gonna have to stop me from getting all these rebounds. Stop talking about how I get the rebounds. Stop me if you can. And I love that attitude of hers and how she’s continuing to get better every single game,” said Cooper.
"She reminds me of me."

Cooper elaborated on the 23-year-old, revealing that eight-time WNBA All-Star Lisa Leslie has been mentoring her. Surely, Leslie’s guidance is bearing rich fruit as Reese dropped a double-double despite Sky’s 4th straight loss to Storm. Meanwhile, Cooper did not only talk about the Sky star. She also chimed in about Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark.

Cynthia Cooper Impressed With Paige Bueckers And Caitlin Clark
Cooper also made some interesting remarks about two other emerging stars of the league- Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark. Now, while Clark is already a reputed WNBA star, Bueckers has turned out to be a phenom this year. In fact, she did tie Cooper’s 1997 rookie single-game record by dropping 44 points against the Sparks back on August 20. Thus, it was pretty much normal for Cooper to call Bueckers a ‘great pro’ in the making.
“You can always tell who’s going to make a great pro. It’s by what they do off the court, what they do before they get to practice or to the training sessions. You know mentally, how she prepares herself. She’s not never too high, never too low, she’s right there, even killed and just focused. She’s driven, she’s focused, and I think she’s going to have an amazing professional career, amazing professional career,” Cooper said.

The WNBA legend also had words of praise for Clark, who, after a phenomenal rookie season, played only 13 games this year due to injury. “You can’t go through a season dipping in, coming out, going in, coming out… Every single matchup, we want to see you shine. So heal, sweetheart, let your leg heal. So when you come out, you’re firing on all cylinders. And you’re the Caitlin Clark. You’re better than the Caitlin Clark we saw your rookie year,” she added.
Thus, with three of the biggest names in the WNBA right now showing promise, the league is bound towards the path of success. Now, fans are eager to see whether the three Musketeers of WNBA will shake off injury concerns in the upcoming season and combine to give the audience a memorable season.
