The WNBA’s one of the most exciting teams is teetering on the edge of a nightmare no team wants to face. After the Dallas Wings, along with the Chicago Sky, faced playoff elimination, their struggles are not over yet.
As per the latest development in their disastrous season, the Wings are on the verge of forfeiting a game because they can’t field enough players. With just five games left in their 2025 season, the Wings are staring down a roster crisis that’s pushed them to the brink.
Dallas Wings Edging Towards WNBA Forfeit
While the dull situation sounds too heavy for a Dallas fan, it’s not something nobody saw coming. Their injury report reads like a hospital chart, with eight players listed and only seven potentially available for their matchup against the Atlanta Dream. In a league where teams need at least eight active players to compete, Dallas is flirting with disaster.

Additionally, the injury list is brutal. Rookie star Paige Bueckers is questionable with an illness that kept her out of Wednesday’s 101-95 loss to the Connecticut Sun. Aziaha James, who dropped 22 points before exiting that game with an ankle injury, is doubtful, as is Haley Jones with a knee issue.

Additionally, Arike Ogunbowale, a four-time All-Star, is sidelined with knee tendinitis, while Tyasha Harris, JJ Quinerly, and Li Yueru are out for the season with knee injuries. Luisa Geiselsöder’s shoulder injury rounds out the grim picture. No player has suited up for all 39 games, and the team’s lost 107 player-games to injuries or absences.

But what’s the way out of this mess? Well, there is. To avoid the unthinkable, which would be a WNBA first for roster shortages, the Wings are leaning hard on hardship contracts. On Friday, they signed Christyn Williams, a former UConn teammate of Bueckers, to an extreme hardship deal and re-signed local standout Amy Okonkwo to a second seven-day contract.
Dallas Wings Making Aggressive Push Amid Injury Crisis
While the Wings are on the verge of witnessing the worst as the season winds down, they are making an aggressive push. Dallas has to be creative with their roster as injuries continue to take a toll on its season, and they are doing just that.

In their latest step towards making a quick fix, the team signed guard Christyn Williams to an extreme hardship contract and re-signed forward Amy Okonkwo on a seven-day deal. These quick decisions are part of Dallas’ ongoing battle to keep its roster intact while meeting the WNBA’s minimum player requirement.
With key players like Arike Ogunbowale sidelined and others dealing with shorter-term injuries, the Wings are doing everything they can to stay competitive in what’s been a tough season. However, Christyn Williams’ signing looks more like an urgent step made at the moment.
