This has very well been Paige Bueckers’ year. The Dallas Wings rookie clocked many miles and hit a couple of never-before-seen milestones. Bueckers recently earned a spot alongside Caitlin Clark with an iconic rookie record.
With that, the Wings’ general manager, Curt Miller, has made his admiration for the rookie star very clear in the wake of her winning the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year. Bueckers’ performance this season has not just impressed fans, but it has clearly won over the leadership of her own organization.
Paige Bueckers Wins Praise From Wings GM After ROTY Announcement
Coming from a team that came fresh off a dismal record this season, the ROTY nod means the world to Bueckers. Though the recognition feels well-earned, Bueckers received 70 of 72 first-place votes for the award, far ahead of the next rookie, Sonia Citron.

Her rookie campaign included averaging 19.2 points, 5.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 47.4% from the field and nearly 89% from free throws.
However, Miller didn’t hold back in lauding Bueckers, not just for what she’s done statistically, but for what she brings off the stat sheet. Soon after the WNBA announced the rookie nod for PB, Wings GM took no time to give it all to his team’s one of the youngest stars. However, WNBA Fans were not happy with Bueckers missing the unanimous ROTY with just two votes.
“Incredible player… better person. This is just the beginning. Congratulations Paige!” he captioned his retweet.

— Curt Miller (@CurtMillerWBB) September 16, 2025
Early in the season, Miller called her efficiency, unselfishness, and ability to take over when necessary as traits that set her apart. These are not just rookie quirks, but leadership qualities, he implied. Miller also framed her selection as a franchise moment. Drafted first overall, there was no plan to trade the pick; once Dallas secured it, he said he “knew we had a special opportunity. Very early on, it was Paige and Paige only.”
Wings GM Wants To Build A Team Around Paige Bueckers
If Bueckers is the centerpiece, Curt Miller appears open to making sure she does not have to carry the load alone. The broader roster moves, coaching staff adjustments, and culture shifts reflect a commitment to building around her.
Though Dallas’ team record was poor this season, Miller’s comments suggest that much of the pain and challenge is an investment in long-term growth. Miller has also publicly acknowledged that winning won’t happen overnight.
In interviews and press conferences, he’s reiterated that character, consistency, and leadership count as much as raw numbers. Finally, Miller’s confidence in Bueckers boosts expectations for the organization at large.
