Finishing last never brings joy to fans, especially when one has one of the best backcourt pairings in the league. The Dallas Wings had to swallow that pill and face criticism over their tactics and lack of player movements to support Paige Bueckers.
While the team finished with 10 wins, there is still some good news for them after all. As per the WNBA lottery odds system, the Wings are favorites to land a first overall pick once again.
The WNBA will hold the draft lottery on November 23, and all eyes will be on the first overall pick, considering the talented and deep draft class.
Dallas Wings with Top Odds To Land First Overall Pick
The Wings had a torrid run in recent years and changed five coaches in the last seven seasons. Despite that, the franchise failed to deliver expected results. In the 2025 season, though, the team showed some improvement, especially with Paige Bueckers’ Rookie of the Year season. Now they have a chance to land another Rookie of the Year candidate with the first overall pick.

Despite the CBA standoff, the WNBA plans to follow its regular schedule. They locked in November 23 as the draft lottery date, eyeing April for the actual draft selection. As per the current odds, the Wings have a 42% chance of landing the top pick.

The Lynx, despite topping the regular season, holds second position following their trade with the Chicago Sky’s first-round pick after a previous trade, has a 26% chance, while the Seattle Storm owns the Los Angeles Sparks’ top pick and has a 16.7% chance of winning the lottery.
The storm also had the second overall pick in the 2025 draft, where they selected Dominique Malonga as their top pick.
Following the Seattle franchise, the Mystics have just under a 10% opportunity, while the Sky comes next with a 5.5% chance of winning the lottery, as the franchise owns the Connecticut Sun’s first-round choice.
With the talented players available, all five franchises will be happy to land any top 5 pick, considering the capability of the top 5 prospects of the 2026 WNBA draft class. The Texas-based franchise had the top pick in 2025 and will look to add one more ‘potential franchise player’ to their ranks with the 2026 first pick.
Dallas Wings’ Options With Their Top Pick
During the 2025 WNBA draft, generational talent Paige Bueckers was the obvious choice as the top pick (as it was for the 2024 season with Caitlin Clark). But the 2026 WNBA draft class is versatile and deep, which would force the franchise to make a bold move.

There are two different options for the franchise that could decide their game plan for the 2026 season and vision for the future. To provide strong backcourt support to PB, the side can choose her UConn teammate, Azzi Fudd, who played at the shooting guard position and was instrumental during the NCAA Championship run.
Also, the franchise could address its forward issue as it struggled to control the paint region for two consecutive seasons. The UCLA star Lauren Betts fits the position perfectly, as she has been a leader in her program and can provide defensive stability to the side. But the Wings can even have a draft surprise under new coach Jose Fernandez.
