The Dallas Wings have had one of the best outings as far as the lottery pick is concerned. For the second straight year, the Wings won the No.1 pick in the WNBA draft lottery. Now, the idea of landing two back-to-back No. 1 picks in two years is utterly exciting.
Even the Wings’ GM, Curt Miller, drew a Caitlin Clark parallel after the back-to-back wins. However, with things looking pretty rosy for Dallas, there are some things that need to be addressed.
Surely, the prospect of Azzi Fudd, Olivia Miles, or Lauren Betts coming in will excite the fans. But the Wings’ problems, unfortunately, run quite deep.

Can The Fans Expect A Stellar Run From The Dallas Wings
Last year, Paige Bueckers was in some stupendous form. Breaking some significant records, Bueckers won the Rookie of the Year award in a dominating fashion. However, her stellar show was still not enough for the Wings to perform well.
In fact, they ended up finishing last on the table. And one of the biggest reasons for the same is that the Wings are a relatively younger and inexperienced team. Thus, despite two No. 1 overall picks teaming up, the fans should not expect fireworks instantly from this season itself.

Especially when they are slated to face the likes of strong outfits such as the Indiana Fever, New York Liberty, Las Vegas Aces, Minnesota Lynx, and more, instead, the Wings, under the leadership of Jose Fernandez, must concentrate on taking their time and building the squad patiently. Meanwhile, speaking about Fernandez, the former USF coach is looking to pave a winning path for the team.
Jose Fernandez Wants Dallas Wings To Win Right Away
The Dallas Wings had a golden handshake with Chris Koclanes at the end of the year. This paved the way for Fernandez to take up the responsibility. Speaking about his new role, Fernandez recently got emotional about leaving his 25-year-old job at the USF.

However, when asked about his vision with the Dallas Wings for the coming season, the head coach sounded pretty confident. Fernandez said, “This won’t be the same old Dallas Wings, my brother. Change is coming, and we’re gonna win.”

Notably, the Wings had a couple of forgettable seasons in the WNBA. While they had 9 wins in 2024, the team could only manage 10 victories this year. Thus, with a lot to sort, fans are now interested to see how the Dallas Wings work things out ahead of the next season.
