The Dallas Wings’ 2025 season had two major highlights. Drafting Paige Bueckers as their first overall pick and the UConn star winning the Rookie of the Year award. Apart from these two achievements, a few wins and PB records made the headlines, but a bizarre 10-34 season record overshadowed that news. HC Chris Koclanes was heavily criticized for it, and now he won’t be part of the Wings’ plans going forward.
The Wings fired the former USC assistant coach. The idea still remains to build around the 2025 top pick, as Dallas Wings GM can’t stop praising Paige Bueckers after being named the Rookie of the Year, and wants to win championships with her. For that, the franchise is looking for candidates who can bring them glory.
Here are the top candidates for the Dallas Wings’ head coach position:
Sandy Brondello

After a playoff exit in 2025, the New York Liberty fired Sandy Brondello from the position. GM Jonathan Kolb revealed reasons for the decision, but there is no denial about Brondello’s credentials and ability to win titles. She recorded the most wins for the Phoenix Mercury and the Liberty before departing from the franchises.
As far as the winning records are considered, the 57-year-old coach has a 60% win ratio, putting her teams in the playoffs every season in her career. She would not only bring the best out of the Wings’ roster, but also could attract a few top names to the lineup with her experience, popularity, game play, and likable nature.
Jenny Boucek
Another former WNBA coach who could be on the radar would be Jenny Biucek. The former Seattle Storm coach has had limited success in the WNBA, spending six seasons and coaching in 175 games, but now transitioning to a career as an assistant in the NBA makes her an eligible candidate.

She was part of the Indiana Pacers that made it to the NBA finals most recently, and can have an immediate impact on the team with new techniques. If she decides to return to the ‘W’ side of the game.
Briann January

Apart from former coaches, one assistant coach that pops up in every franchise’s wish list is Briann January. Taking out one of the top names from the coaching staff of the Indiana Fever could be a massive coup for the Dallas Wings.
Spending eight seasons as an assistant coach, the 38-year-old has vast experience in the league and other franchises as well. She even worked as HC for the NBA’s G-League team. With the trend of upgrading opposition’s assistant coaches to HC, January fits the bill perfectly.
Lindsay Gottlieb
Going down the street, Wings could add one of the best college coaches in women’s basketball, Gottlieb. The USC coach put the USC team on the map once again with the help of star guard Juju Watkins. The 47-year-old coach has a stellar record, winning 72% of the games she coached.
She could guide Bueckers to new highs – adding her game to the one taught by Geno Auriemma. The former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach moved to college basketball in search of an HC position. Now with Watkins out for a season, she could move to the WNBA and join forces with PB.
