The Dallas Wings have been in a slump and they do not have an answer how to pull themselves out of it. Till now, the team has won only 9 games while losing 27 games. And despite Paige Bueckers getting praises from the WNBA for achieving several historic milestones, the Wings’ fate has not changed much. Surely, with such a dismal record, the team is eager to bounce back. And that is exactly why the team signed Amy Okonkwo recently.
Wings, at the moment, is just trying to finish the season on a high. Following the heartbreaking loss against the Los Angeles Sparks, the team was officially eliminated from postseason contention. Thus, with no other options left, the franchise is trying to build for the next season. And this is why the Wings’ front office has resorted to Okonkwo.
Amy Okonkwo Roped In To Aid For Dallas Wings’ Injury Woes
It has been quite a forgettable season for the Wings. Not only have they faltered on the court, but off the court, too, the team has suffered a lot. Injuries have plagued the team significantly, contributing to the already existing woes. One of the team’s mainstays, Arike Ogunbowale, has been injured and does not have a set return timeline. Add to that the unavailability of both Li Yueru and Tiyasha Harris.

Surely enough, it was evident that Wings needed reinforcements. And bringing in Okonkwo might help the team significantly. According to reports, the star forward was signed on a seven-day contract. First of all, the 28-year-old will have a towering presence on the court. Standing at 6’2” tall, the forward will be trying to put in as many baskets as possible. And thankfully, her career stats too, does look quite impressive.

Amy Okonkwo Expected To Help Paige Bueckers Pile On Greatness
Okonkwo will be bringing her impeccable performance to the WNBA. And teaming up with Bueckers, the duo can surely work wonders. After all, Bueckers is already stepping up. She just needs to find a suitable partner. The 23-year-old had her coach, Chris Koclanes, praise her after her antics in the absence of Arike Ogunbowale. Now, her 44-point game against the Los Angeles Sparks has earned her Cameron Brink’s praise.

“She’s a phenomenal player. Point blank period,” Brink said.
Although Wings lost the game, it was Bueckers who became the rookie with the highest points in WNBA history. She also dropped the most points in the current season. Thus, with Okonkwo coming in, Dallas fans might as well feel a bit upbeat about the remainder of the season.
