Despite flashes of some excellent performances, the Dallas Wings have struggled to remain consistent on the court. While their offensive woes are a major reason for their tough patch, injuries also hit the franchise hard.
Currently, at the 12th position with a 7-17 record, the franchise is shorthanded in the backcourt. To maintain the player rotation, the side signed a former Indiana Fever guard on a hardship contract.
Dallas Wings Bring In Guard On Hardship Contract
The Texas franchise has been without its pair of guards, Maddy Siegrist and Tyasha Harris, for some time now. Harris will miss the entire season, while Siegrist could recover in time from the knee injury. Following multiple absences, the team signed guard Grace Berger to a seven-day hardship contract.
This is Berger’s second hardship signing this season. She previously played for the Los Angeles Sparks and the Minnesota Lynx earlier in the year before being waived. She played five seasons for Indiana University, amassing 1,841 points, 573 assists, and 752 rebounds, ranking seventh all-time in scoring and second in assists. In the ‘W’, the Fever rookie had minimal opportunity and averaged 3.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 49 games.

The waivers and releases include many young stars like Mikiah Herbert Harrigan and McKenzie Forbes (May 4). The franchise released Aaronette Vonleh on May 6. Madison Scott, Joyner Holmes, and Mai Yamamoto followed the exit door. Liatu King also left the organization a week after signing a season-long contract with Hailey Jones, replacing her.

In trades, they acquired towering Li Yueru from the Seattle Storm, who remains the only addition in midseason. The side might get another top draft pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, allowing them to fill in the roster with the talented 2026 draft class.
