While incomplete CBA negotiations have put the brakes on adding players to the roster, teams are now looking to seal deals for the head coaches. So far, the expansion team, Portland Fire, has appointed Alex Sarama as the franchise’s first head coach, and teams like Dallas Wings, New York Liberty, and Seattle Storm are yet to make any signings.
While many coaches find their names in discussions, the Wings have a shortlist of candidates who could make an announcement earlier than other franchises.
Dallas Wings Rumored To Target Coby Karl
After the firing of defensive-minded Chris Konclanes, the front office is looking for multi-dimensional and head coaching experience candidates for the vacant position. Early on, Sandy Brondello emerged as the top candidate for the Wings’ HC position following her experience and relations with a few Wings stars.

But now there are names in the list which the front office is considering, along with the WNBA champion coach, to make a long-lasting impact on the team.
According to various sources some of the strongest Dallas Wings candidates for the next head coach include:

Sandy Brondello – Former Liberty HC
Joseph Blair – Rio Grande Valley Vipers HC, 2019 G League Champion
Dave Joerger – Former Sac. Kings HC
Coby Karl – Former G League HC…
A name that stands out from the rest is former G League head coach Coby Karl, who has led the South Bay Lakers and Delaware Blue Coats. Son of retired HC George Karl, Coby has 27 years of experience in the men’s league, coaching nearly seven different teams during that period. He worked with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, then-Seattle Supersonics, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, and Sacramento Kings, making him a one-of-a-kind coach who saw many strategic changes.

While other teams are also top destinations for coaches, Paige Bueckers remains a strong ‘pull’ for the players and coaches that makes the Wings stand out as one of the most promising spots for a new coach to come in.
Dallas Wings Need A Strong Season To Shut Down The Critics
For the second season in a row, the Texas franchise struggled to make it through to the playoffs despite having star players like Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale. While ESPN puts the Wings at the rock bottom of the 2026 season power rankings, a shrewd addition would change the picture completely.
While the HC position holds utmost importance, the side will be looking to add an effective forward who would take the team to the next level. As per the New York Post’s analyst, the Wings could add Dream’s Brionna Jones as its next mega target.
The analysts wrote, “Yet again, she made an All-Star team, and she found herself on the cusp of the All-WNBA conversation as well. Jones is among the league’s most efficient players and is impactful on both ends due to her offensive rebounding, screen-setting and post production. There’s no reason to suggest Atlanta won’t prioritize bringing her back in free agency, but she’d also be a frontcourt upgrade for Dallas if she looked elsewhere.”
The side is also a favorite to add Angel Reese as their other superstar rookie in the lineup, which could put them in the contender level with the big three of the side already leading the league in their respective stats.
