The WNBA Finals are underway with Game 1 of the series already showing a glimpse of possible high-voltage fixtures ahead. The Aces came from a nine-point deficit against the Mercury to take a 1-0 lead in the series, and the player of the match was Dana Evans, who made an impact with her all-around gameplay.
A’ja Wilson’s Aces set the WNBA viewership record for the semifinal series against the Fever and will look to continue to impress fans with their gameplay. In Game 1, though, it was the 27-year-old who stole the show with a record-setting performance to stun the Mercury team.
Dana Evans Set WNBA Finals Record
There were many important matchups in the Aces vs Mercury WNBA finals series. The trio of A’ja Wilson, Chesley Grey, and Jackie Young was up against the big three of Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabally, and Kahleah Copper. Many expected one of them to be the deciding factor of the matchup. Though every superstar from the trios performed well, Evans became an unexpected game-changer in the match.

Coming off the bench, the guard recorded a game-high 21 points with five three-pointers. She also had two rebounds, three assists, and four steals, impacting the game on both ends of the floor. With that, the former Louisville star registers a record as the only player with five three-pointers and four steals in a WNBA Finals game.

Dana Evans-A’ja Wilson Power Aces To A Comeback Win
The Mercury series was always going to be challenging for the Aces, who needed Game 5 overtime to defeat the resilient Indiana Fever. A’ja Wilson offered a unique analogy to describe the Las Vegas Aces’ journey back to the WNBA finals. The Mercury team rallied behind its strong fourth-quarter game to defeat the likes of the Lynx and Liberty.
But the Aces turned the narrative around, outperforming the Mercury in the fourth quarter with a 22-15 shoreline, helping the side overcome a nine-point deficit. Evans led the charge with scoring 9 of her 21 points in the final 10 minutes and also had one rebound and a steal to disrupt the Mercury’s gameplay.
Wilson also recorded a double-double in the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds, out of which she scored six points and four rebounds in the last quarter. They will look to replicate the result in the next home game, also to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the final.
