Fans filled the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento for the Virginia Vs TCU game. It was a close contest, and both teams delivered their best performances on the floor. Then, during the breaks, fans lined up for autographs, and it was for coach Dawn Staley.
The South Carolina Gamecocks coach was in the arena, and fans didn’t want to miss the chance to get close to and get an autograph from one of the influential coaches from the NCAW. While every now and then Staley showed her softer and caring side, like keeping checks on the players stuck in the Israel War or even wearing a ‘Hollywood Raven’ T-Shirt to show support for her star player, she also gives back to the community and fans.

The three-time champion coach gave the fans her full attention and kept signing autographs even after a staff member asked her to stop. In the press conference, the 55-year-old coach later provided a reason for her ‘generosity’.
“Our game has grown; people want more access to us. I think it’s only right for us to give back to the game. Do you know how much those tickets cost yesterday? I will say this, the people in the arena were really nice,” Staley said.

It’s not that the coach only works for the positive parts or pleasing parts of fan interactions, but every now and then, she showed support for players in need or even fans too. She famously helped out UCLA superstar Lauren Betts when she was struggling with a mental health issue and even spoke about body-shaming challenges that female athletes face in their careers.
The coach backed the WNBA players, too, as they fought for the CBA deal, and after the recent confirmations, she used it to motivate her senior players.
Dawn Staley Encourages Her Players With New CBA Deal
The 2026 CBA Deal was revolutionary for players, allowing them to earn huge salary raises and a revenue share. While rookies also receive a huge boost with bigger paychecks and a performance bonus, coach Staley used the CA deal to encourage her players during March Madness games.
The coach said, “I will say the players’ association and all the officers in the players’ association, just bore down and fought for their worth and the worth of current players as well as the future. They understand they have to be on this side of such an historical deal, they understand they have to be on this side of history to move our game forward,”’
