Dawn Staley has been one of the biggest names in the NCAA female basketball realm. Coaching the South Carolina Gamecocks, Staley has been one of the most successful coaches in the program.
Unfortunately, this year, her stint with the Gamecocks is looking particularly concerning. While Staley is trying hard to make her team attain pole position, several injuries have hindered the team’s performance. One of their mainstays, Chloe Kitts, recently ended her season prematurely due to an injury.
And as Staley sent her heartfelt support for Kitts’ ACL tear, she is seemingly in for some more worry. In the very recent game of South Carolina, another of their star players, Agot Makeer, suffered an injury.
Dawn Staley Delivers Interesting Update On Agot Makeer’s Injury
Makeer has been making all sorts of noises since her entry into the NCAA circuit. She came in as the No. 6 recruit in the Class of 2025, as per ESPN. And that is not all. The youngster also clinched the McDonald’s All-American Game and a Naismith All-America Honorable mention while in her senior high school season at Montverde Academy.

And thankfully, she has continued her fine form for the Gamecocks, too. Owing to her impressive showing, South Carolina recently beat Bowling Green 114-47. But unfortunately, as Makeer got fouled while taking a layup in the third quarter, she injured her back.
Speaking on her injury, Staley did not offer too much insight. Rather, the Gamecocks’ coach said, “I mean she’s not crying so that’s a good thing.”

"I mean she's not crying so that's a good thing"
Surely, while the coach remained tight-lipped, the response meant that she did not have any clarity on when Makeer would return. And this is utterly frustrating for someone like Staley. She wants to nurture her students and transform them into superstars. Take A’ja Wilson, for example.
A’ja Wilson Extends Her Gratitude Towards Dawn Staley
The Las Vegas Aces star is now the hottest topic in the WNBA. It was her brilliance that propelled the Aces to win the WNBA championship with a 4-0 washout. And as she continues to get the praises, Wilson cannot help but forget the role of Staley in her life.

Wilson played four seasons with the Gamecocks. And in 2017, she won her first NCAA title. Furthermore, the Aces star also clinched a record three SEC Player of the Year awards. And all of this, according to Wilson, wouldn’t have been possible without Staley.
“She’s instilled so much in us, and how to carry yourself, how to have a great attitude, how to be great in the locker room. I’m glad that I’m a student of hers, um, a player of hers, probably a daughter of hers, because she’s really instilled all of that,” Wilson said.
Thus, it is evident that with her expertise, Staley can transform a good player into a genius. Now, as the likes of Makeer and Kitts are out injured, all she would be hoping for is their speedy recovery.
