Becky Hammon is getting all the limelight at the moment. And thanks for all the right reasons. Guiding the Las Vegas Aces to victory, the 48-year-old has been a hot topic of discussion. While she has been getting a lot of compliments, praises about her coaching IQ have been pouring in. So much so that the likes of Stephen A. Smith advocated for Hammon to lead an NBA side.
However, while the opportunity might sound like a dream come true for Hammon, there are some crucial things to keep in mind. And who better than Dawn Staley to state the exact problems a female would face?
Dawn Staley Highlights Downside OF NBA Having Female Head Coach, Pegging Back Becky Hammon’s Chances
Staley has sent quite a ripple through the NBA realm this year. Owing to her impeccable coaching tactics that led South Carolina to another national title, she is being highly rumored to come in as a head coach in the NBA. She has recently been linked to the New York Knicks after Tom Thibodeau was sacked back in June. Unfortunately, despite coming close to history, the Knicks chose Mike Brown as Thibodeau’s successor. But Staley had some strong words for the potential of female coaches in the NBA.

“It’s not just hiring the first female coach. Because one, if I’m the Knicks coach and you have a five-game losing streak, it’s not going to be about the losing streak. It’s going to be about being a female coach. So you as an organization and a franchise, you have to be prepared about that and strong enough to endure those types of instances when you’re a female coach,” Staley said.

Surely, as Hammon now finds herself in a similar situation, such a statement will provide her with valuable insights. Meanwhile, it looks like the Aces do not care whether their head coach gets a coaching job in the NBA or not. They are just happy to have the 48-year-old as their mentor. Recently, Nalyssa Smith praised Hammon’s coaching balance. Soon after, A’ja Wilson showered her with more compliments.

Becky Hammon Gets Her Flowers From A’ja Wilson
A’ja Wilson might have been the five-star general of the Las Vegas Aces. But without the mastermind of Hammon, such a stupendous performance would not have been possible. At the halfway mark of the regular season, the Aces looked down and out. However, it was from there that Hammon’s coaching IQ took over. Las Vegas next won 16 back-to-back games to secure the second seed, and ultimately won the title. And Wilson knew exactly what the 48-year-old was worth.

“When you’re talking about a woman that pours into you, that sacrifices for you, that loves you for who you are, that’s that motherf***king Becky Hammon. d she believed in us when no one did. She brought us back to life. And I’m so appreciative of what you do and how you pour into each and every last one of us. We go nowhere without Becky Hammon,” said Wilson.
Thus, it is quite evident that Hammon is making some serious ripples in the hooping world. Now, it remains to be seen whether she can overcome the obstacles and get herself an NBA coaching job anytime soon.
