A month ago, the WNBA standings looked different. There were two different parts in the league, with the top eight sides having a massive record difference from the bottom teams. Three-time champions LA Sparks were struggling in the bottom half and were considered out of postseason contention. But since mid-July, the team made a strong push, led by Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby.
While the team will play back-to-back road games, the consistent forward explained the fire within the team going ahead of the upcoming away games.
Dearica Hamby Is Ready For The Challenge
A 10-5 run since July gave the Sparks fans hope about the postseason games. After missing the playoffs in the last four seasons, the side’s 2025 season under Lynne Roberts looked like another disaster. However, players found the groove at the right time, and although they have yet to book a seat in the playoffs, their energy is high.
Dearica Hamby, the star forward who held the side in a tough period, recently talked about the upcoming road games. The team will face the Dallas Wings next August 15 and then travel to the Capital for a game against the Washington Mystics (August 17).
“Just continue the momentum we’ve had the last 12 games. One game shouldn’t break us. We did a lot of things well, and we didn’t play our best basketball. But we got three really important games coming up that we need and should win, and go from there,” Hamby told reporters about the preparations.
On the road again.

Both Wings and Mystics stand below the Sparks in the WNBA ranking, and wins against them would not only shut their chances for the playoffs, but the LA side would even enter the top eight standings.

Understanding the task at hand, ‘Mama D’ will be all set for the challenge. In the previous meetings, the Spars are unbeaten against their upcoming opponents, which will be a massive boost for visitors.
Dearica Hamby Reaching New Milestones With Her Consistency
When the whole team was struggling to make an impact on the court, the Wake Forest forward was the only consistent player. With her clutch three-point play against the Seattle Storm or towering presence near the rim, the 31-year-old star held the Sparks’ season.
She also surpassed Diana Taurasi in the WNBA’s all-time rebounds list, reaching a few more milestones in the season. The veteran star, who has won multiple Player of the Week accolades for the side, averages around 18 points, three rebounds, and two steals per game.

Hamby would share the load with Cameron Brink, now back on the floor, allowing the side versatility going into the games. A 0.5-game difference between eighth and ninth place makes every win important for the teams.
