The 2025 WNBA finals series is nearly over, with the Aces looking for a clean sweep in the series after dominating the 11 quarters played so far. The only quarter where the Mercury team looked in command was the fourth quarter of Game 3. Yet the Aces came out victorious, which drew praise from the veteran forward DeWanna Bonner.
A member of the golden era of the Phoenix Mercury never experienced such dominance by a team as the Aces had in the finals series. Interestingly, A’ja Wilson’s friend claims Bonner nearly joined the Las Vegas Aces after leaving the Indiana Fever, but now she is at the receiving end of the Aces’ hammering.
DeWanna Bonner Opened Up On Difficult Chances To Win Over Aces
The Las Vegas Aces might have won Game 3 after A’ja Wilson’s heroic game-winner, but the Mercury team had the momentum in the fourth quarter, making a solid run to cut down the Aces’ 17-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter. Alyssa Thomas blamed the defensive lapses at the beginning of the game for the loss.

Continuing her point, the former champion Bonner mentioned that a comeback win against the Aces is nearly impossible. “I feel like that’s what we’ve been doing all playoffs, just fighting our way back into it. Like Alyssa (Thomas) said, we can’t start that way, especially not against them,” Bonner said.

The Mercury side recorded multiple wins behind its fourth-quarter performances, but as Bonner mentioned, it was difficult for them to repeat the magic in the finals. Yet, with 20 seconds left, Alyssa Thomas got the ball off the turnover but missed a layup to put pressure on the Aces, and with 0.1 seconds left, Wilson’s mid-range jumper sealed victory for the Aces.

Bonner herself had a chance to force overtime, but her shot bounced off the rim as the Mercury made a last attempt to grab something out of nothing. Entering the finals, Bonner was excited to play for the Mercury as she spoke in detail about it.
DeWanna Bonner Opened On Her Second Spell With Mercury
After a brief stint with the Indiana Fever, the 38-year-old forward rejoined the Mercury team, where she played in two WNBA finals and won two championships. Before the 2025 finals series, the star opened up on her time with the new team and the problems she faces since leaving the Fever team.
“It’s been tough. I’ve been through a lot, especially the cyberbullying. Just thankful for my teammates, my family, my kids,” Bonner said.
Her recent breakup with the Indiana Fever was highly controversial, with Sophie Cunningham even demanding that the star retire rather than facing backlash from fans. Although both player and franchise showed no ‘bad feelings’ for one another, fans are still unaware of the reason for her departure.
