The return to the Phoenix Mercury has been very fruitful for DeWanna Bonner. ‘Home coming’ suited the 37-year-old star, with her performances reaching ‘expected levels’ and helping her side clinch victories. Although that was not the case during the game against the Atlanta Dream, the two-time champion had a memorable performance.
In her 17th WNBA season, the former Auburn star set multiple records in the league. The elite scorer is already amongst the Hall of Fame players in the league and her outing against the Dream handed her another impressive record.
DeWanna Bonner Rising Up The Shooter’s Ladder
With 18 points scored against the Atlanta side, she led the team in scoring and was also efficient (45%FG) than the starters. Moreover, she netted five baskets, taking her career FGM (field goal made) tally to 2532. This puts her at sixth all-time on the list of most field goals made. She overtook Sylvia Fowles’ record of 2531 FGM.
After the Dream loss, the six-time All-Star starred in a game against the Liberty, taking her tally to 2539 baskets. She now trails Tina Thompson, who has 2630 FGM and stands fifth on the list. Diana Taurasi also leads the list with 3341 FGM, leading the scorers’ table. The forward already stands third in the all-time leading scorers list.
The star averages nearly 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Her average with the Indiana Fever in seven games was 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and two assists. This highlights a change in her game after the switch to the Mercury side.
DeWanna Bonner Happy To Be At Phoenix Again
The veteran spent the majority of her career with the Phoenix Mercury and won two titles with the franchise. She moved to the exciting Indiana Fever in 2025, but after the first few games, she opted out of her contract and returned to Phoenix.

“I walk into the arena for game day, and I had no idea where I was going, and it was crazy because I was there for 10 years every day. Everything is different, but the fans are still the same, a couple people in the front office are the same. Getting back to Phoenix after so long, the love and the welcome that I had was very much needed and appreciated. Coming back to people that I know,” Bonner told the Associated Press.
She even clarified that the move to Phoenix was not a result of her move to the bench at Indiana. She is still taking the sixth player role at Mercury and has won three individual accolades coming off the bench in the past.
