The Phoenix Mercury removed the title holder, the New York Liberty, from the 2025 championship race. Alyssa Thomas recorded a triple-double in the win, with other starters also putting up excellent performances. Though Natasha Mack struggled a bit in the game, DeWanna Bonner stepped up coming off the bench.
Returning to the Mercury lineup, Bonner made WNBA history early in the season and then continued to be a key player on the roster. In the playoff games, she also remained a vital piece in Nate Tibbetts’ plans. The player also created WNBA history during Game 3 of the series against the Liberty.
DeWanna Bonner Overtakes Candace Parker In Rebounding List
The Phoenix Mercury looked confident about winning against the Liberty in the eliminator game, while Jonquel Jones warned the opposition. The game was always going to be an exciting encounter, with multiple star players capable of becoming game winners.

For the defending champions, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu were clinical on the offensive end, combining for 52 points against the solid Mercury defence. Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas countered with 43 points. While both teams were strong on the defensive end, Bonner and Thomas were putting up strong numbers.
The 6-foot-4 guard-forward came off the bench to log four points, eight rebounds, two assists, a steal, and one block in 21 minutes of action. Her rebounding number took her tally to 614 rebounds in the postseason games. With that, the Mercury superstar surpassed Candace Parker at the top for the most rebounds in the playoffs.

DeWanna Bonner Revive Career Joining Phoenix Mercury
The veteran forward joined the Indiana Fever’s project to help the side win a championship in 2012. The highly assembled team was the top candidate for the title from the start, but Bonner couldn’t find her rhythm in Stephanie White’s system and moved back to the Phoenix Mercury.
Bonner shared candid thoughts on the Phoenix Mercury homecoming and slowly started fitting into the new Mercury system. Coming off the bench, the 38-year-old star impacted the game on both ends of the floor.
In the playoffs, she is also averaging 13 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, ranking among the team’s top-three performers. She will be looking to contribute to the franchise’s fourth championship.
