The UConn Huskies already have 12 national championships, with coach Geno Auriemma leading the side to a dynasty. The program is once again the favorite to win the title in the 2026 edition following its undefeated season and players’ form. While the team is working towards its goal, Diana Taurasi opened up about the simple plan her former coach follows and has found success with.
At the tip-off, Geno Auriemma showed confidence in his UConn Huskies and added that the side could go undefeated and repeat as NCAA Champions, and maybe his former player’s revelation would shed light on the reasons for his confidence.

Diana Taurasi Unearths Geno Auriemma’s Winning Formula
The UConn Huskies have two of the top players in the NCAAW, and analyst Stephen A. Smith chooses the defending champions as the definite winner for the 2026 edition. While he sees the players are the reason for the success, a former UConn player and national champion points to Auriemma’s way of winning.
Talking about his grit and simple formula to win it all on a regular basis, DT said, “There is no one that I’ve ever met, that is more competitive than him (Auriemma), He’s just competitive; he wants to beat everyone. He wants to be the best coach in the country. He wants the best players. … It’s really simple for him.”

While the coach strives for excellence, he also works hard for it, and his recent actions clearly show why he continues to dominate the NCAAW.
Diana Taurasi Surprises Future UConn Superstar
Right after winning the conference tournament, coach Auriemma was on a plane on his way to meet his future recruit. The coach already spotted forward Olivia Vukosa as the potential star for the UConn Huskies, and Taurasi followed his suit, surprising the star before making her UConn debut.
Vukosa recently won the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year, and the presenter was DT.
Showing her excitement, the young star said, “I didn’t even see the trophy, I didn’t see anyone. I saw her through the door and I started crying. It’s definitely a surreal experience and something I’m definitely going to cherish forever… She’s someone I’ve looked up to for a long, long time and it just doesn’t feel real. It feels like a dream.”

Vukosa is a strong forward who is a great shooter and a top defender, also. Meeting with WNBA legend surely fired up the UConn commit, who will be next in line and join forces with Sarah Strong from next season.
