WNBA’s All-time leading scorer, Diana Taurasi, retired from the action in February 2025, and apart from her honorary appearances, the veteran player is away from the game entirely. She did her annual “The Bird and Taurasi Show” for the NCAA tournament, but later it was hard to find her near the basketball court.
The WNBA final was one occasion where many expected the 42-year-old to come and show her support to the Mercury team, but she gave it a pass. While another former Mercury star, Sophie Cunningham, provided her reason for not watching the 2025 WNBA Finals series, DT revealed the reason for her decision and priority.

The Las Vegas Aces took an early lead with two wins at home games. With the Mercury needing support from fans and encouragement from its former players, many expected the team legend to show up at the PHX arena. But later it was understood that she didn’t even watch the Finals series.

“That was their fall break, and we needed to get away for a few days. These days, you’ve got to figure out when they are free and take advantage of it,” Taurasi told the media.

She is now playing golf in her leisure. The three-time champion recently participated in the Jerry Colangelo Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Classic in September. She jokingly admitted that she is getting better at it. Apart from this, she made a public appearance for Sue Bird’s statue reveal event, where Taurasi dropped a powerful statement as the Seattle Storm’s bronze statue of Sue Bird.

Diana Taurasi Coaches Her Son’s Basketball Team
While the player is out of the league, she is not away from basketball. She told the media how she and her wife are giving their Son Leo’sLeo’s first-grade team basketball lessons. But she admits that teaching them is a difficult task.
“Penny and I coached Leo’s first-grade team, so we practice with them a little bit. We try to teach them the fundamentals of basketball, which isn’t easy when they’re 7 years old and they can’t even form a straight line, but we’re getting there,” Taurasi told the media.
While the star might be away from the league, she showed support for player pay, Caitlin Clark, and other big stars. She even released a three-part docuseries that chronicles the life and career of WNBA legend Taurasi.
