For 20 seasons, Diana Taurasi catered to the WNBA. Yet, when she was selected for the Paris Olympics, controversies broke out. Several fans questioned the decision to call up the 42-year-old instead of Caitlin Clark. Playing in her rookie season, Clark had taken the WNBA by storm.
Initially, the choice looked quite normal. Bird, commenting on the selection, stated that she had the ability to calm the team down. Unfortunately for Taurasi, things did not turn out as expected. In what was a shocker, she was snubbed from the team in the most crucial game.
Diana Taurasi Still Livid About The Golden Snub
Taurasi did win yet another gold medal in Paris. It was her sixth Olympic gold, further enhancing her already illustrious career. Speaking about the same in her documentary, the 43-year-old stated that she deserved to be on the team. Justifying her pick, the WNBA veteran pointed out how she has been winning games for her team for the past twenty years.
Now, then, Taurasi had a total game time of 55 minutes and 50 seconds in the Olympics. Unfortunately, that number remained unchanged as coach Cheryl Reeve did not call her in the finals. While the former WNBA star anticipated her coach’s call, Reeve did not bat an eye. Taurasi is livid about the same to this day.
“I’m confused by what happened. “I never got, ‘Hey, you’re not going to play because we’re going this direction.’ Sounds good, I can live with that. But I didn’t get that. Maybe it was just my time to get the raw end of the stick,” said Taurasi.
Defenses rejoice. The incredible career of @DianaTaurasi has come to an end.

Thankfully, the United States of America triumphed over France by a point. But for Taurasi, the sixth gold medal did not feel as worthy as her previous five felt. Meanwhile, speaking about the future, Taurasi recently praised Caitlin Clark.

Diana Taurasi Hails Caitlin Clark
Taurasi has remained quite active discussing all things WNBA. From commenting on the WNBA athletes’ low wages to who the future superstar will be, the 43-year-old is always bang on. Speaking about Caitlin Clark, Taurasi stated that she could be the next one in line for a NIKE contract.
“Caitlin, of course. I mean, I know she has some (player exclusives), little colorways, but you can do that on Nike ID. I mean, the next Caitlin shoe should be the next one, and you know my kids will be wearing it,” Taurasi answered without hesitation. (via X/FOS)

Surely, this is extremely happy news for Clark’s fans. Previously, NIKE signed stars like Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson, and others. With Clark officially named, fans are eager to see whether the prediction proves right.
