The WNBA offseason is a period for players to take well-deserved rest, refine their skills, work on their off-court activities, and connect with fans through public events. However, for the injured stars, it’s a painful period as they look to return to full fitness with no basketball action around them.
DiJonai Carrington is one such player who had a season-ending injury during the playoffs. After that, different social media activities on her account and her partner’s account led to rumors of a breakup with NaLyssa Smith.
While neither player confirmed the news openly, there is one positive update for the Lynx forward on a personal front, and she shared the same with fans via Instagram.
DiJonai Carrington Provides Emotional Injury Update
The former Baylor player suffered an injury during the first round series against the Golden State Valkyries, which ruled her out for the rest of the season. She had surgery early in October to speed up the recovery process. After the painful rehab, she is doing better and was able to walk for the first time. Excited by the progress, the 2021 rookie shared a post on her Instagram account.

“first time “walking”. y’all don’t know how hard these last 2 months since my injury++++ life changes have been but officially 6 weeks post op today & starting the weight bearing process. thank you, Jesus, for the small wins,” Carrington wrote with teary-eyed emojis.

After the trade from the Wings, Carrington played in 11 games for the Lynx and averaged around nine points, two rebounds, an assist, and a block per game. She was an integral part of the Lynx bench, which was struggling at the time due to injury to Napheesa Collier.
But first shoulder injury and then leg injury limited the 27-year-old’s time on the floor. As per the updates, Carrington will also miss the Unrivaled season 2 as her recovery period exceeds the start date of the 3-on-3 league.

The Unrivaled league’s season 2 starts from January 5, wherein the team names and rosters are already out. Fans were expecting to see the former Sun star on the roster, but her rehab period exceeds the tournament dates, putting her out of the initial roster. Though devastated at missing a chance to play in the new league, the 27-year-old showed faith in God once again and shared an optimistic post.
“so sick about this but I know my God is cooking up somethin real special!!!” she wrote in her post.

The main aim is to get healthy before the start of the 2026 WNBA season, as the 2024 Most Improved Player is an unrestricted free agent ahead of the 2026 season and will be looking to join a top team on a multi-year contract.
