Aside from the exciting and entertaining games in the 2025 season, the WNBA captured headlines due to injuries to a host of stars during a vital period of the season. The Fever missed five due to season-ending injuries, while the Lynx saw DiJonai Carrington and Napheesa Collier missing the closing stages of the season.
While multiple players are on track with their recoveries, Sophie Cunningham and Carrington required significantly more time due to the severity of their injuries. Midway in the offseason, Carrington penned an emotional post while “first time walking” amid foot injury recovery. A month later, she retook the help of social media and provided an update on her recovery.

DiJonai Carrington Provides Positive Update On Her Recovery
The former Connecticut Sun Rookie was one of the impressive stars for the Minnesota Lynx in the 2025 season after her horrific outing with the Dallas Wings. The player also looked happy with the move and was looking to secure her first title.
Unfortunately, though, she injured her leg in a game against the Valkyries in September. Though she underwent surgery after the injury, the recovery period was long. So in her second month of recovery, the player shared an update as she wrote, “2 months post-op todayyyyy and doc said everything looks greatttt???????????? long way to go but a long way from where I started— mentally & physically???? small wins.”

The inability to walk indicated that the injury was serious and that returning to full fitness would be a long way off. This also cost her a place in the Unrivaled League season 2. However, DiJonai Carrington remained optimistic.

As for her chance in the WNBA, she is not under any contract following her one-year deal with the Lynx, which expired in the 2025 season.
DiJonai Carrington Enters WNBA Free Agency With High Hopes
Free agency in 2026 has one of the richest pools of talent, and the 27-year-old forward is one of those big names who will be under the radar of many teams. The winner of the 2024 MIP brings in strong performances and versatility to the team. She can shoot well and be useful on the defensive end, too.

Pre-injury, she averaged 9.8 points and 1.1 steals per game between her time with the Dallas Wings and the Lynx in 2025. Though the length and value of her contract depend on the CBA deal first and foremost, she will have to prove her fitness before free agency signings to help teams focus on her star abilities.
