The Seattle Storm is trying hard to stay in playoff contention. However, their recent loss against the Sparks further weakened the team. Despite a dark cloud hanging over their WNBA future, the Storm did have a silver lining, and it was none other than Dominique Malonga.
Seattle had a nail-biter to begin with. As both teams upped the stakes, the Sparks held their nerves to clinch a 94-91 win. Yet, the Storm fans went back home with a little something for themselves. After all, Malonga did carve out a little piece of history for herself.
Dominique Malonga Oozes Confidence En Route To WNBA History
Malonga is just 19 years old, but the manner in which she has performed speaks volumes about her potential. Emerging as a hero on a losing cause, the Cameroon-born player scored an impressive 20 points. To add to her tally, she also grabbed 11 rebounds.
The 19-year-old also chipped in with an assist and a steal. With back-to-back games with 20 or more points and 10 or more rebounds, Malonga became the first of her kind in Seattle Storm history. She is also placed 10th in the overall WNBA list of rookies. And with such a stat line, the 6’6” Storm star entered the legendary territory.
Dominique Malonga became the first rookie in franchise history, and 10th rookie in WNBA history, to record consecutive games of 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Surely, this was indeed a spirited performance from the Storm rookie. Especially considering the fact that Malonga did not start. Coming off the bench and ruling the court for 30 minutes is not a matter of joke. Impressing further with her hooping skills, the center shot 9-of-12 from the field. Meanwhile, another noteworthy thing is that this was not Malonga’s first time impressing the WNBA fans.
Dominique Malonga Marches On While Earning Coach’s Praise
The French guard initially impressed in the EuroCup. However, after coming into the WNBA, her skills have further blossomed. Playing against the Indiana Fever, Malonga became the youngest player to record 100 points and 100 rebounds at just 19 years and 260 days. And such consistency made head coach Noelle Quinn heap praise.

“Learning the league, learning how she can find ways to play well, play within ourselves, within our system and what we want to do defensively. Defending multiple positions from posts to guards. That just takes some time and I think she’s put the work in on court film sessions to really understand what we need from her and she’s grown up right before our eyes and going to continue to get better,” Quinn stated. Well, her coach has every reason to be happy, as Malonga did not deliver a one-off performance. Playing against the Aces, the 19-year-old impressed with 22 points and 12 rebounds in a losing cause. Thus, with things looking bright, fans are now eager to see how things pan out.
