The scenes in Texas were jubilant following the 2025 WNBAA draft. The franchise selected generational talent Paige Bueckers as its top pick, and everyone was dreaming of at least a playoff appearance in the 2025 season after an 11th-place finish in 2024. But instead of an upward swing, things went south, and the Dallas Wings faced an early exit from the postseason qualification.
All this despite PB’s incredible rookie season. The downfall shocked fans, but Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green stepped in with a piece of advice.
Draymond Green Offers Advice To Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings
The Rookie of the Year frontrunner from the start was seen as a catalyst for the big changes in the Wings’ season. The front office tried to form a team suitable for her game, adding veteran experience and star power around her. But the on-court chemistry never clicked as the franchise had hoped for, and they failed to capitalize on the former UConn star’s solid first year.

However, the Golden State Warriors’ forward, Draymond Green, spoke about the topic during his casual debate with ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. He pointed out that the franchise is holding on to the wrong pieces and needs to build a proper team.
“In order to be in the race, she has to. But does she do it? They need to now build the team properly. They’re holding on to the wrong pieces,” the veteran forward wrote on his Threads account.

Although PB single-handedly put up numbers and still ended up losing the game due to the team’s poor performance. It certainly is a concern for the star and fanbase, also, who would love to watch the rise of the franchise alongside the player.
The 2025 regular-season player stats agree with Green’s assessment. PB leads the side in scoring, assists, and steals, which could be acceptable. But the difference between her stats and other veteran players is massive. Moreover, the rookie had been a very consistent performer for the side. Bueckers even set a record for the most consecutive double-digit scoring games in her first season. The team widely failed her in this department, with their inconsistency hurting the team’s progress.
Wings Already Planning Future With Paige Bueckers
The analysis and assessment were also in place for the Wings franchise. The team’s decision to move NaLyssa Smith and DeJonai Carrington for the future picks hinted at a major shuffle for the franchise’s long-term plans.
Those moves not only handed them multiple first-round picks but also allowed the rookies on the roster to showcase their capabilities. Arike Ogunbowale remains the only superstar veteran on the roster, while the front office is moving towards the fresher legs and talents around Bueckers.
